Hey everyone.

I have a 2009 G37S convertible, with just over 11k miles on it. Love it. She's a heavy girl, but pretty much the same G we all know and love. :yesnod Plus, can't complain about having the top down 9 months out of the year here in AZ...

Looking ahead, I was wondering when I should plan on getting new tires. They are the standard tires (Bridgestone Potenzas) that come with the SPORT package (225/45R19 front) and (245/40R19 rear)

I do mostly city driving (albeit aggressive), but have taken the car on 3 separate road trips to Southern California (400 miles each way)

Just kind of want to get a general idea of when I should expect to put new tires on. At what mileage should I be thinking about it?

Thanks for any and all input...

It is really up to how you drive. You can kill tires in hours or use it for 50k miles no problem. I personally use them quick since I take corners spirited.

Best way is to keep monitor the depth on the tires. You know when you get down to 4/32 to star look for a new set.

My experience: 2003 G35 Coupe Journey
OEM-Goodyear RS-A A/S 13000 miles (biggest POS tire I have ever owned)
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 26000 miles (decent traction and wear)
Mastercraft junk got me to 45000 and trade-in (real noisy)
2008 G37 Coupe Journey:
Dunlop Sport Maxx A1 A/S 31000 miles (Good tires, quiet, Fair traction in wet and snow, had 5/32 when trade for 2010 FX35)

I believe most of the potenzas have a treadwear rating of 140 or lower. I typically got 12k-18k miles out of them. I loved the dry traction and the super stiff sidewalls.

Bought my '09 G37S 7AT used w/9k miles already showing outter wear on the fronts (225/45R19 front) and (245/40R19 rear). Now at 15.6k and they look really bad. Will replace the fronts only soon. The rears still look good.

Anyone have comments on replacing the fronts with a different brand or going with the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport?

The 760s looked like a great tire, butt IIRC they are much harder than the RE0XX And therefore will have less handling/traction capabilities. How that affects the car is highly based on how you drive it. If you stay away from the limit, then there should be no problems.

Getting a proper alignment (not just an alignment, but one from a tech who understands the bizarre wear characteristics of a G) will do more than changing to a different tire IMO (there's room for elaboration here).

OP, buy a tire gauge if you don't have one already.
I replace my tires at 4/32nd like zozo says.
I might go a weeee bit less on the back, but not the fronts!

(Reminder about tire wear ratings - they are only useful when comparing tires of the same manufacturer. There is no standard for the numbering system across brands.)

Not familiar with the Potenza's you have, but looking at Tirerack, I would lean toward the RE760's if you don't do snow, and the Yoko ENVigors if you do.
Pretty sure it was the RE750's that I had on my cobra and they were awesome!! Very much like the Yoko S-Drive's I had on my G coupe.

At my 12K oil change I had the dealership do an alignment. It was off by only the slightest bit. Didn't seen to make a difference and they told me the outer wear is normal. Taking it to a different dealership this week to see what they have to say.

Probably pick up those 760's for the fronts. I dont think I take corners that aggressively. Oh, and my G will never see any snow.

Outter wear is usually caused by excessive toe-in. A little toe in is good for handling, that much toe in makes me think that someone is pushing the toe specs to the extreme. On the G35s, the tire wear occured on the inner sides of the tires. In order to combat this, the toe-in was set to max spec and you could get decent wear characteristics out of them. Outer wear on a car with that much negative camber is a bit odd to me.

I had the chance to see the RE760s on a M45 this weekend. The tread pattern is pretty good. I'm guessing that you give up some traction for better wear. They seemed well suited for rain too.

Just replaced my Potenza RE960AS with another set after 64,000 miles. Use my coupe mainly as an interstate cruiser. Back tires wore down evenly to the wear bar. The front wore along the inside edges. Not to bad considering you can't rotate the tires on the coupe. Still, I don't think I'll get another car with different size tires front and back.

I consider myself lucky to be able to rotate my tires every 6k miles and I get 50k miles out of them.

I replaced mine at 32-33k because I was having a problem with the front tires being cupped on the inside. I could have gotten another 10k out of them, IMO.
