License Plate Installation

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I was notified my plates were in so went by the dealership for them to be installed. Unfortunately, I didn't check the front one and when I got home I noticed the mounting plate was crooked and not centered. It looked terrible.

Went back today and had a talk with the service manager, expressing my disappointment that "someone" wasn't paying attention to what they were doing or didn't care. My vehicle is less than two weeks old and although the license holder and plate have now been correctly installed, I know there are two holes in my front bumper that shouldn't be there.

Am I being unreasonable or too picky? What would you have done? I have ordered another accessory for the back bumper it has to be precisely centered to look right and now I'm not sure I want to take the chance they will screw this up too.

I've owned Honda's for 30+ years and little mistakes like this is what made me leave Honda and try another make/model. Now I wonder if it's the same with all dealers. Talk to me. Oh, forgot to add the window tint had to be redone too...

I've been generally happy with my dealer. This is my second Infiniti through them. So I've been going to the same dealer for 3 years now.

When I bought my EX I had them through tint and a clear bra in the deal. I picked it up after tinting last week and when I got home I noticed the metal strip on the shift knob had two scratches in it. One was smaller and kind of squiggly. The other was much bigger and DEEP. It absolutely had to have been done by the tint company. It was so deep it had to have been done by a razer blade. It wasn't just from someone's ring or anything.

Anyway, I brought my car in a few days later for the scheduled clear bra install. I told them about the new scratches. They took a look and said no problem. When I picked it up, they already had it replaced.

Now, I'm not the kind of person to raise a stink over anything, but I would consider talking to the service manager about your first issue and see what he says. A reputable Infiniti dealer should have no problems doing what is right. That is usually the difference between a luxury dealer and everyone else. If they balk, push the issue. If you have another Infiniti dealer in the area you can go to for future work, then raise a stink with this one until you get satisfaction. Then in the future, start using the other dealership.

There's not another dealership within 300 miles so that's not an option. I did have a conversation with the service manager and told him how I felt, why I left Honda and expected better of Infiniti and their way of doing business. This is a reputable dealership - Hoy Fox also owns Acura, Mercedes and VW here.

The two holes do not show since they're hidden by the plate but I know they are there and didn't have to be....I don't know what else they could do short of putting on a new bumper. Wouldn't that be a bit extreme and in your opinion, what else could they do anyway?

I'm not one to make a stink either but this was a disappointing way to begin what I had hoped would be a long and enduring relationship.
