license plate bulb

Hey I'm new to the group and just purchased a 2012 QX56. I bought LEDs to replace the license plate bulb but I no way of reaching the bulb without removing the back panel. Is there an easier way to getting to the lights? If not how do I remove the back panel without destroying the vehicle? Thanks.

you can only get to the license plate lamps through the back door finisher.

the back finisher is held on my clips. i think there is a little door you pop open to access a couple screws then you just pull C-A-R-E-F-U-L-L-Y the back finisher. PATIENCE!!!!

I installed LEDs in there and the finisher being removed is the only way.

Is there any way that you can post a pic? I just don't want to screw things up haha. I see the three doors and the four clips aligned with the power liftgate button but I have no idea where to go from there.

you have screws there to remove. after that,, just pry SLOWLY up on the back door finisher and it will POP off the clips. the POPS are loud and it may sound like you are tearing something, but rest assured they are just pulling out of the hole in the sheet metal and the clips have ridges on them and that sound is just loud..

Welcome to NICO! Topic merged with existing thread. Here's a video showing what's involved in replacing the backup bulbs, which I believe is the same way you get to the license plate bulb.

yes you have to open up the back panel. its the same for 2011+.

get the service manual and it will help you.
