Ok so this is my first post here, been reading postes here for awhile. I have been searching for two days her for info on converting a LHD to RHD. I can't find any info at all, I live in Utah, and have someone to do my safety and I.M but i wanna know if i can take my 95' 240 and turn it to RHD and have it be legal. I'm lookin' at a RHD front clip with a SR20det and a trans for 2100$ with free shipping! I have all the nohow and fabrication skills to pull it off, I just wanna know if the DMV and insurance company's will let me drive my car after. Thanks for your time in advance, I really did do a search I promise :)

Oh BTW please don't bash that i want RHD, Its something you never see here, I have always loved RHD cars. Every search has just lead to WTF would you want RHD so can we keep that out of this one. Thanks guys

Not something much of us have done. And Each city has different rules pertaining to this. Talk with someone at the DMV. If they are anything like the DMV here, then they are lazy and will probably say its illegal just to get you out of there hair. Push them a little, be sure to get information as to of why it isn't allowed.

My friend has a RHD civic and has never had any issues with police. Depends on your location though.

I lived in las vegas for 4 years and I converted my 91 si crx to rhd and wha I did was get it reg lhd and I did the swap and then I just mobbed it, I was pulled over a few times and all the cops really liked it an on paper it was legit. I wouldnt let ur insurance know because its a major job doing it and it would more than likly total the car, Thats what happend to a friend of mine with a rhd da9 integra. He let his insurance know they flagged it at the dmv he had to pass an inspection and then he was clear to drive it again, But that was because he didnt tell insurance till after it was done. And in nevada the tech inspection is a bit of a pain. nothing like calis though. I am in the process of finishing a rhd 92 240sx and will keep you posted on whats up when I do start to drive it. But if I were you I wouldnt tell the dmv nor the insurance company and if U were 2 total the car then deal with it and go from that point. But hopefully that wont be happening.. Another thing is you want to keep all ur vin## intact onthe original firewall. Thats one thing I learned with the crx.. If you do a whole firewall swap keep your origninal vin plate and re rivit it to the new firewall as clean as possible.
As for utah? I am unsure of ur laws and if you need to smog what not. I wouldnt be too concerned about the rhd.. If u have smog its still cool to do the swap and not wurry. Evrytime I smogged my crx they were lookin at the rhd swap more than the engine they loved it as well.
I hope this answers some of ur concerns but I would still look into it a lil but and just ask the dmv hey I wanna buy a usdm car thats has been profes converted to rhd. What would I need to do to register it. Dont let em know u want to do it to ur car.. Just play around with them u dont wanna get ur car flagged at the dmv. Cause once its flagged its flagged for all 50 states and even if oyu sold it the new owner will have to go through what u didnt.

Talked to the Insurance company they are ok with it, no increase in my premium. Now just have to get the ok through the DMV, has anyone done this swap before? can you give me some pointers??? I'm a body man, so I know how to replace the firewall all the rest seems self explanatory, just resemble with the new dash after the RHD firewall is in?

I'd be hush hush if I were you. Driving a RHD car in a the states is actually pretty dangerous at first. You'll find yourself wanting to swerve the car to the left constantly. Going into other lanes and even over onto oncoming traffic at times. It takes a while to get used to.

I'm stationed in NC, I've seen an R33, 97-98 converted to RHD, a RHD jeep, a RHD AE86, and when I lived in AZ I knew a few people that have done the conversion, the issue is your insurance company, if you're a safe driver- you're fine, but if you get into an accident and finds out you chopped a hole in your firewall you can kiss your coverage goodbye, I don't know if you'd loose the vehicle if you got pulled over. Just make sure you convert to JDM side mirrors and change the VIN number on your dash or anything else that needs it.

P.S., I'm not telling you or suggesting you do this, but you'd have to find a friend to do the "inspection" for you
