I'm going to agree with everything wes has said here. It's pretty much what I was going to post anyway. SC400 is a waste of cash because it's not worth what it costs. Go buy a G50 Q45. It's perhaps the sexiest V8 powered japanese sedan ever. Plus, it's got a decent sized engine...4.0 liters is very small for a V8. The S13 is a great car, too, but for a daily driver, I'd want something more rounded (functionally, not aesthetically). Again, that's where we come to the Q.I've never been a fan of Lexus styling--in fact, Lexus makes some of my least favorite body styles--so I can't recommend the SC for that either.

Get the best of both worlds...spend a small amount of cash on a beater (but decent body/paint) 240, and have a vh45 crammed in there. With enough money, anything is possible. It'd probably come out cheaper than the SC anyhow.

SC300 with a manual. It might be a little out of your price range if you find one in good condtion. I hear what you are saying about your parents not encouraging you about modifying your car. My parents have been againt if from day one. I still have a play car.

Forget what I said about the Leopard...I forgot, those got the VG engines in them in Japan.

And what engine do the SC300 and 400 have in them. If one of the two has the N/A 2jz, an MKIV supra transmission should bolt right up. And it shouldn't be to costly.

The interior of an SC is pretty cool, but it just doesn't drive like it looks like it should. It drives like a 4 door sedan. Going with your choices I'd say 240 is the way to go. It's a little easier on the modding teenager whereas for an sc400 you're going to spend more to achieve your goals along with dealing with high maintenance costs. I'd recommend a g50 Q also, but I can't because I'd be contradicting myself. I agree with the chice of M30 over all of em though.

I don't think I typed out anything about my pops not encouraging me to modify my car (he's very much right on with me with whatever kind of idea I tell him about the car I want to get), but my mom, well she just doesn't car b/c she wants a truck.

And yes, heres what I've got from my research.SC400- 1UZ-FE, 4.0 v8, 260hp. 99-00 model (i believe) got 290hp, only in automaticSC300- 2JZ-GE, . The bottom end is the same as the MKIV supra. If I wanted to do the swap to 2jz-gte, absolutely no cutting/welding/ custom fabrication required, it bolts right up. So the swap shouldnt be hard (money wise). There are quite a few parts on the supra that are interchangable (sp?) with the SC, big plus I think.

My dad's eyes got wide when I told him about the Supra engine deal. He was like, "that is the car you want my man".

As far as sourcing the engine/getting in there/ doing any kind of machine work (port and polishing, bore and stroking, balance and blueprinting you get the idea) I have a guy (through my gf, its her brother in law) that can help me with all of that (plus I'm going to work under him once he moves down here, July sometime)

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea or the 240sx (I've been wanting one since 2001) but, I would really like to get this to be a little different, b/c now I feel like i'm just jumping on the bandwagon if I get one. And I mean different for my age, theres like 3 S13s and one S14 at my school, all with something done to it, no one there has an SC.

If my dad is doing well with money in the next few months (I talked to him last night) then he will help me out considerably with insurance.

Thanks for all of y'alls opinions, and feel free to add some more information about anything. But I think I got my mind made up on the SC for right now, and if that falls through, then I'll go back to getting an S13.

Oh, since I learned about the SC300 (before I just wanted the SC400), I'm going to plan on getting one of those (manual of course)

Another edit, the cost of the car is going to be under 9k, big jump b/c all I've been wanting is an S13 under 2k (see sig)

Hey Henry.

I wanted to push for you getting the s13, but it seems like you have your heart set on the lexus... so I say go for it. I'm glad that you seem to be making your decision based more on more practical/efficient reasons rather than a long-lived passion.

It kinda reminds me of my first car experience... and it was a decision I have yet to regret. Good luck!
