Yeah it's not a GTR and it is a Toyota but what do you guys think of this car? I personally thing it kicks *** though I know I can't afford one at the moment and by the time I could I know there will be something better. Check out this shootout between it and an RS4.http://www.webridestv.com/show...63850

I don't like it.

When I first heard about it, I expected that Toyota would stuff a lot of power under the hood but forget about making the car fun to drive.According to the reviews I've read, that's exactly what they did. The power's there but the sportiness isn't.

It's a powerful luxury sedan, which in itself isn't bad. But it is NOT a sport sedan. It isn't a sports car. Problem is Lexus is billing it as the latter two rather than the former. The M3 and RS4 (and I'd bet eventually the CTS-V) are real sport sedans, not luxury wannabes with big motors.

The thing I don't get about the IS-F is that it really fails at being sporty OR practical. The IS is way to small to be used as a proper sedan. The back seat is less usable than those of many 2+2 coupes I've been in. But it's not sporty either. So it gives up it's sedan abilities to become not sporty. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Add to that the fact that the Lexus is horrid looking, and you've got a pretty poor package.

Of course, none of those tinysedans appeal to me much at all, but at least the M3 and RS4 are attractive and still real sedans in addition to their gut-punching performance.

A GS-F would be much more interesting to me...if it weren't for the fact that I already know Toyota would bungle it.

I think that's a nationwide thing. There were short IS-F ads in between the previews when I saw Iron Man last week.

Saw one a few weeks ago. Visually striking, but kinda bland (according to reviews). 8 speed automatic = not a real sports sedan...

The body style is sex already but coupled with more power is nothing but a win win IMO. Lowered on some Work VS-KF's.......

I don't find the stock IS attractive at all, and the extra crap glued onto the F model doesn't improve things.

The one thing I do like about the F is that it raises the hood, and the line along the bumper, grille, and through the hood is super clean.

The door vents suck, and fake quad exhaust finishers are überfail. IIRC, there's even real quad exhaust pipes behind them...but for some reason they still felt the need to glue chrome ovals into the bumper?

Both ISs, though, are way too wedge-shaped. Their butts are sky-high and their noses look like they could fit under my bathroom door. WAY too much contrast. The F's hood tones that down a bit, but the rear decklid is still way too high. Sitting next to one at a stoplight, the trunk is almost as tall as my whole freaking Q!

I'm actually a fan of the newer IS (F or not) as well as the older ... especially the SportCross. And I give credit to any car manufacturer that's willing to build something over most of their customers needs/wants.

Now, who's seen the new Audi S5

The S5 is friggin sex. I've seen a few in person, and they're amazing.

The IS wouldn't annoy me so much if it wasn't so fantastically over-priced. An IS250 is THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS MSRP!! That's insane. Beyond insane. $30,000 for a 200 hp car?! What the HELL is Lexus smoking?

It places it somewhere between a loaded Altima, Maxima and G35 Sedan.

Keep in mind, very few people really buy cars based on HP.

True, but the Altima and Maxima are both a lot bigger and make more power, and the G makes a crapload more power and is still roomier (IS rear seat might as well not be there).

The IS is nicer inside than the G, though. Although I've only ever been in the 350, but I assume the 250's the same.

I know not many people buy based off horsepower, but when you're 50-100hp below the "standard" there's a problem. Can you imagine if the original 100hp IS200 had MSRP'd for $30,000? They wouldn't have sold a single car. At least the new ones are pretty luxurious inside--the old ones were just basic sedans aside from the rear-drive and 2JZ.

Its quicker than you think, I believe it is like 7.5 to sixty. Plus, nowadays people might buy it just b/c its "more fuel efficient" than the larger engine model. And it is a Lexus, do you think they would sell any new vehicle at less than 30k?

THAT is exactly my point. Just because they're Lexus doesn't mean the car is worth $10k more automatically. They might mark it up like it is, but that doesn't mean reality is rushing to keep up with their stupid.

I guess I just disagree... I think that its a respectable performer (for a Lexus) and it isn't that highly priced. I mean, its not perfect, but there are worse offenders out there IMO. Look at the Germans if you want to talk about prestige pricing.

At least BMWs are a joy to drive. Doesn't matter how fast a Lexus is, it'll never do more than support your but and propel it forward. Lexus has no idea how to make a driver's car.

I think IS-F is a great car. In the recent R&T comparison, it was faster than the new M3. The best thing about Lexus is reliability and customer service though, if you want a car that will never break down, buy a Lexus!
