Hey Guys

Before I go on, I will introduce myself. My name is Yury Lyalko and I am the owner and operator of Wiring Specialties. We are a Nissan Wiring Shop that has focused on the 240sx market in past years. Our specialty (no pun intended) is in harnesses for various engine swaps.

We have been working on a few prototypes harnesses for the Z crowd that will include swap harnesses (RB25 and RB26) and are considering looking straight replacement harnesses for the VG along with swap harnesses for the NA to TT swaps.

My goal here is to see what kind of interest lies out there for our products. All of our harnesses are brand new and pre-made to be dropped in. They also have a 100% start up guarantee.

If replacing your 15 year old harness is something you would be interested in or if a swap is in your future and you think this is something that could benefit you, please leave your feedback below. We would love to hear it!

As far as the OEM replacement harnesses, I think you will have a market if you can give us a competetive price. Personally, I wanted so badly to replace my original harness when I had my engine out, but I could not afford the cost of a new harness.

Information on current cost and availability - http://www.importpartspro.com/ni30efwiha.html

If you can get a considerable amount below that, I believe you will have people lining up for reaplacement harnesses.

If you were to make harnesses for RB, 2JZ, SBC, VH45, etc. I would think you could sell a few but there haven't been as many swaps going on lately - your harnesses might or might not be what changes that, but I think if you were to produce any there will be more swaps which use your harness.

Of course, depends on prices...That's my .02. Take it with a grain of salt, I don't know much about crazy swaps like that haha

In comparison to the OEM harnesses yours has to…

1) Have a better price
2) Be at equal or (preferably) better quality
3) Not overcharge on shipping

The question is - can you do all of that and still make a profit of it? :gotme
If you can then you'll definitely see interest in your product.

I would be interested depending on price and other factors mentioned above. I really think you could see a bunch of customers ordering from your business if the quality was up to par, especially since most people are still using their factory harness.

You would be doing a good thing, especially OEM replacements. One of the main problems with z32's today are the harnesses are old, brittle, and usually always need replacing, especially the earlier z32's (90-92). If you're priciing is way better than OEM Ill probably be in. Also are you only making swap over harnesses for rb's or other motors as well? (1jz, 2jz's etc..) :)

IMHO a great product for the market would be appropriately gauged extension harnesses. Boomslang offers an extension harness (plugs between EFI harness and ECU) but it is all one generic wire gauge. There are heavier gauge power and ground wires in the EFI harness. Matching that would be a good product, though I can't guarentee you'd sell a ton.

Everyone should have one though, IMHO, because it'll save your factory harness from getting hacked up. Tap into the extension for all your electronics installs and leave the factory harness intact.

I think you'll be hard pressed to match the quality of the OEM EFI harness, AND beat the price. It's just a very expensive part.

Just as Tony said, extensions would be the bomb, I'd love to be able to get adapter harnesses for my harness to not have to cut and solder it say old style harness to new style injector adapters or a sandwich plate style insert for the EFI harness to ECU to be able to tap into different channels without having to cut or splice. There is not much out there in the Z32 market that hasn't been done the problem is that anything made for these cars will be relatively low volume production and sales and will drive the cost up, which is why my wallet and bank beat me up every time I buy parts.

Thanks for the info guy. In terms of pricing, this is something that would be determined once a few prototypes are made. In terms of quality, this is something we take very seriously. We strive to be better than OEM wherever possible.

This is great info. and it is much appreciated.

Right now we are just looking into RB25 and RB26 swap harnesses.

To add to that^^^^.... I think you would need to have the customers confidence in other words the harness that they want/need IS INSTOCK AND READY TO SHIP

And accuracy!! (Make sure that harness is a direct oem replacement)

Then you will be in the market only question remaining (like infiniti eric said^^) is will you still make money?? :gotme

First off, let me welcome you to the Z side of things, Yury! Guys, Yury and his crew do awesome work. I'll be willing to bet anything they put out will be better than OEM.

As far as this, I've seen an RB26 swapped Z. He had to cut a hole in the nose panel to fit the cam gear covers. That engine is very longggggg, and requires a ton of modification to fit properly into a Z32. An RB25 may have a better chance, seeing as it even uses the same trans, but that's still a very long engine.

The VH45 is a much more common swap to do on a Z32. Some people want 300 N/A hp, and for that, the VH is the way to go. I'd look more into developing something like that.

By far, your biggest market is gonna come from N/A->TT conversions, and special order harnesses (for instance, early style harness with option of updated PTU; Switched injector voltage mod with new style/ old style injector clips, ect, ect....) All the options of the harnesses i listed would be easily interchangeable during production, and could let people "custom order" their harness to the way they want their engine to be set up, without any cutting or splicing of the harness.

Keep throwing out ideas, everyone!

Thank you for the feedback guys. The VG30 and other Z32 platforms is the next step for us. Prototyping is in the works and more feedback would be greatly appreciated!

You should also consider offering an upgraded harness that incorporates the new PTU connectors for all model years (unlike the OEM for the 90-94 TT, which still has the old style PTU connectors); a choice of old or new-style injector connectors; and the wiring mod to cut power to the injectors when the key is off.

THe OLD PTUs are out. All the harnesses we make will have the nice and clean new PTU connectors.
The power supply will be switched, as the new harnesses have.
We've thought it through pretty good, so hopefully the new harness will be address most everybody's needs.

Thanks
Yury

Update: The VG prototype harness is done and it moving forward to first production stages. We are looking to have something available this winter.

The VG is a long harness and some of the connectors had to be custom made but it is ready to go now.

Exactly. If you make a harness for the VH45 let me know asap so I could buy it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. This is exactly what we are looking for. I would not have thought of the VH45 as being a popular Z chassis swap.

How many guys here are running this swap? Any companies out there that make a motor mount kit to bolt this up or is mostly custom work? More feedback would be greatly appreciated!

This is (VH45) the swap of choice when people want to stay NA and make decent power but don't have the money for LSx or just want to keep it in the family. Really the only truly popular swap for Z32s is the NA>TT other than that most of the components for others are one-off.

We did not really think of the VH45 as a swap choice. How popular of a swap is this for the Z crowd?
And thanks again for feedback everyone.

when do you think the vg30dett harness will be available? I would love to buy it from you guys rather than the crazy over priced amount the vendors charge. I am going to start buying parts for my build this winter around end of october/ earl;y november.

If you made a harness I'm willing to bet it would be a more popular swap, I thought about it for a while and there are several others on here that have been thinking about it. A few have their engines but haven't heard much out of them since. My vote is definitely for the RB harness but I'm bias because I have one but dont leave the VH out of the lineup.

I honestly don't see more than a dozen of each (VH and RB) harness ever being sold. Honestly, they're not very popular swaps.

WS could make them, and sell them I'm sure, but the money maker will be an OEM equivalent EFI harness series, featuring discontinued years and configurations, IMHO.

we now have RB25 and RB26 wiring services ready for the Z32. Pre-made harnesses are still in development.
