Ok I'm tryin to run this threw my head. 57Trim T3/T4E, 50Trim T3/T4E or a T3/T67 (Full race specs). I kinda have a idea how some of these would spool on a I4 2.0 but Not a I6 2.0. I'm looking for good top end but not killer lag. My old Setup on my DSM I would hit full boost at like 3700-4000 (can't rem it's been a while). It was bit laggy but just a little more than the Stock turbo was.

Look into a 60-1 or a 62-1 from turbonetics. Drop them a call, they are very nice and helpful on the phone. You might want to look into a T04b (more or less a 60-1) as well. It all comes down to what you want power/power curve wise. It's very hard to get both high output and quick response without paying for it, and sometimes, regardless of money, you can't have both.

You say you know turbos, so I'm sure I'm telling you things you already know. Those turbos I spoke of should be good for 300-400rwhp going by what I've read. The guy at turbonetics really pushed the 62-1 on me, saying it had a better efficiancy range than the 60-1 and about the same spool characteristics (full boost in the mid 3k range on a RX7). To give you an idea on the difference of a 2L four vs. a 2L six, HKS told me on the phone that due to the extra cyl I would see boost about 500 rpm quicker than I would with the four. This was when he was talking about the GT2835ProS they had on their WRX 2L motor.

These are nice, reasonably priced turbos. I'm holding out for a ball bearing turbo myself, but might run something like this in the meantime. First things first, have to get another motor first (not my first RB swap, thought I'd try the RX7 thing, but that was a no go).

Hope this is what you were looking for, or at least helps a little.

I know a guy who is running the 62-1. He told me it was alot better than the 60-1. My problem is I don't know how long I'll be working (Contractor) If I get 3 more months out the company then I can spring for a GT30R. :( so I'm thinking the worse and going with a non BB turbo.

Do BBs spool up noticeably faster?

HKS said that BB turbo's should spool about 500 rpm quicker than a similar sized non BB turbo when I spoke with them on the phone.

I wonder who rbsileighty spoke to at Turbonetics. Eric, or Daryl, or Dave or Joe or Ryan? Some of them have real experience, but some just go by specs in the book haha. What kinda hp are you looking for yellow4g63? Thats the real question here. I can give you some advice, I have a turbonetics t3/T04e on my RB25 S13. Its a E-50 trim ceramic ball bearing, stage 3 turbine wheel with a .48 a/r turbine housing. I was looking for quick spool and also good top end. I wanted a turbo that would be good for the street and also for drifting. They suggested a 62-1 but thats too big in my opinion. My turbo spools almost instantly, and it pulls harder and harder all the way to redline. I'm running 11psi right now on stock injectors, with Power FC, and Z32 mafs, and the injectors are maxed out. At 11psi its making an estimated 370hp. It will go on the dyno very shortly to see for sure. I would guess the 1/4 mile time to be mid 12's right now, at around 120mph in the traps. Once i drop in my greddy manifold, tomei 555cc injectors and nismo fuel pressure regulator thats all sitting in my garage, i'll put the boost up to around 16psi, and dyno tune it with the power fc. It should make close to 450hp once tuned properly. If you're looking for more hp, you would have to upgrade the stock headgasket, and start upgrading the bottom end. If I were you I wouldn't go larger than a E-60 compressor, and no bigger than a stage 5 turbine wheel. If you have any questions just gimme a call at turbonetics and as for Mark H.

Wish I knew how much power I wanted lol. I'm thinking .63 exhaust stage 3 max cause it's still a 2.0. 350+ would be a good # to shoot for on pump gas for daily driving.

i just put on my 60-1.. stage 5 wheel.. its a lil more laggy then my t3/t4.. but when running thru the gears full bore... there is no lag.. its a perfect turbo for a stock internal 25

Hi guys, haven't posted in a long time! good to be back here. Anyway, i've been moving back and forth from nissan to honda and picked up some info on the honda boards. A lot of the guys i've been talking to have been singing the praises of Precision Turbos. Most specifically, the SC61. This thing friggin rocks, and the prices are insane for what you get.

Take a look at these turbos.

Good luck guys! and it's good to be back!:ylsuper

Great info Mark. I really am not sure who I spoke with on the phone. He spoke like he was from the north east with a deep voice if I remember correctly.

I was really surprised to hear the 60 and 62 were basically the same, except the 62 flowed more. However, I figured this guy works there and not me, so I guess he knows what he's talking about. Is it true these two flow the same? When would you expect to see boost running either of these on a mildly and/or heavy tuned RB20 (the question is open to you as well Chris)?

Always nice to have insiders like you on the boards Mark.

Sup fella's, After having gone the route of LAG with my last drag setup, I would definitly not suggest it for a daily driver. If I were to do it all over again I would get the T3/T04E 50 trim with a .63 AR. Looking at the compressor mapping, it'll support good top end pull and still not fall out of the efficiency range.

Good place to start looking, you might consider the GT30 also.

Thanks RBsileighty! You probably spoke with Daryl at Turbonetics, I talked to them today about the recomendations for proper turbo sizing and set em' straight haha. Yes the 62-1 flows slightly more, it has the same size exducer, but a slighty larger inducer diameter, but it shares the same contour profile of the 60-1 wheel. Either turbo on a RB20, would spool quite late, you can't guess an exact number, because there are so many factors involved with spool up, such as what gear you are in, load, ecu tuning, exhaust diameter, etc. If I had to guesstimate when it would make full boost, I would say around 4500-5000rpm. That also depends on the turbine wheel size and turbine housing A/R.

Exactly WDRacing, E50 is a perfect size for a daily driver and weekend racer, I looked at the compressor maps and thats why I went with the E50. E57 wouldn't be too bad either. I don't like E54, its a crappy trim, look at the compressor map, its efficiency range is tiny.

Excellent! I was about to start a thread about this and found this one!

I was working on turbo sizes with an engineering buddy of mine who's into turbos. After an hour of messing around with numbers, we came up with something.

For the RB20 with a nice intercooler, hoping to have max boost of about 16 psi by 3800 rpms, aiming for 350whp and pulling right to redline efficiently we got:

T3/T04E stage 3 .63 turbine with .60 comp. housing and 50 Trim.

That turbo is just good all around and is hard to beat if you ask me. Had this been the RB25, I'd do the same but 57 Trim.

I think it'll be just perfect.

Might want to run a larger comp A/R on the 25 as well. My goal with the 20 is about 400rwhp, and I will most likely use the GT30R from Garratt which is a 60 A/R comp.

THIS IS FOR WD OR MADSCIENTIST: CAN THESE STOCK TURBOS BE UPGRADED? I WANT TO UPGRADE MY TURBO WHEELS TO STEEL AND THE COMPRESSOR SIDE TO T4, CLEAN IT UP A BIT, FLOW OUT THE TURBINE AND COMPRESSOR SIDES SOME, REBUILD WITH BALL BEARINGS AND HPC COAT THE ENTIRE TURBO. I'M LOOKING TO GO THIS ROUTE BECAUSE IT WILL BE CHEAPER AND IT WILL BE BUILT AROUND MY SPECS.

Sounds to me like they wanted you to buy a ball bearing turbo. Ball Bearings do not spool the turbo at greatly lowered RPM. The exhaust housing A/R and the turbine wheel (stage 3 vs. stage 5) determine the spool characteristics of the turbo.

ball bearings increase the transient response of the turbo. An example would be that if you are already in an rpm range where full boost is reached, from the time you floor it to the time it is at full boost would be sooner on a BB turbo.

A turbo without ball bearings will spool at almost the same rpm as a turbo with ball bearings if the turbine and compressor specifications are identical.

i was looking at the turbos at cheapturbo.com and was wondering if the t3/to4r "aka The Big Kahuna" would be a good size turbo for the rb25det or a rb23det stroker for around 450-500rwhp.i know it will be a little laggy but i have a 89 coupe for a daily driver and a 90fastback with sr20det that im selling, and im getting another coupe for my rb project.i plan for it to be just a weekend car/track car.
