Specifically what should the gaps be set to on the intake & exhaust side and how many of you are running synthetic & what weight?

Unless you got some crazy powerful setup with a s***load of fuel to ignite, than stock gap is probably the best. Some plugs (like Bosch platinum x4) aren't able to be gapped.

Exceptions to spark plugs is beyond me. IDK when it's appropriate to stray from stock specs. So I just stay stock because my motor's stock.

Even though Platinum plugs last a long time, it's good to periodically pull them just to read them and check the gap. After 2 years of running, the gaps on my two center plugs were .010 too large. I'm glad I re gapped them : )

I think 10w30 is the best oil for the naps-z. I used to run 10w40 when I first had my naps-z because it was a "truck" motor, but that was a bunch of BS.

I think you can run 5w30 if it's cold enough, or even straight 30 if it's warm all the time. Most people just stick with the 10w30 because it's available everywhere.

There is an oil chart in the service manual.

5w30 and 10w30 are supposed to have the same viscosities at operating temp (30 weight). I'm not sure what temp exactly (I think it's around 190 farenheight). Pezi might know it.

the oil gets thicker as it warms basically... at what temp it reaches full weight i don't know... but considering some engines operate at 180 it much be at least decently before that

I don't have the owners manual or any other paperwork with this vehicle which is why I asked here. Is the gap the same on both sides?

got it.

1980= 0.039" - 0.043" (1.0-1.1mm)

1981-1989 z24= 0.031"-0.035" (0.8 -0.9mm)

If you need outside of those years or for the v6 let me know.

What is the reason for the different heated plugs? I thought one type would be beat for the engine.

IDK either. One theroy of mine is that by the time the flame front reaches the other side of the combustion chamber, it's partially burned. So the other plug is of a different heat range.

When I replaced the plugs in my old z24i with Bosch Platinums, they were the same heat range for both sides.

When I bought the Z20 I installed in my galant supersaloon it came used with BPR5ES both sides. The Z18ET I recently carries BPR6ES-11 both sides. Of course I can't verify the year of manufacture so I can't say if it's correct.
