Hi. I'm working on a turbo set up: z31 turbo, hacked maf, fmic, 10 psi.

For fuel I'm using 370 cc injectors and I need to decide on some sort of fuel pump...

The my main goal in this project is to keep it cheap. I'm estimating the whole project to be less than $1000, and I want to keep it that way.

Now to get to the gist of this post... I want to know if the z31 fuel pump would be reasonably safe for 250hp. I asked some people on z31.com and got several responses. Someone claims to be running 350hp with the stock z31 pump. And several claim to be just fine at 250hp.

So does anyone know anything about z31 fuel pumps? Remember, I want to spend as little money as I can on this project, and the z31 fuel pump seemed to fit the bill for my fuel pumping needs without having to invest in a fpr for the z32 pump. I'll probably get the pump anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone had any reason not to get it(besides its age).

Thanks

more power to you if you use a Z31 fuel pump. I got my Z32 TT fuel pump off ebay for under 50. You can also get the 255 walbro for just under 100 shipped.

Yeah.. I would have gotten the z32 pump, but doesn't it outflow the stock fpr? So you would need an aftermarket one, and thus drive up the price of my project.

I figure that the z31 pump is a happy median between the stock pump and z32 pump, without outflowing the stock fpr.

The happy median is the Walbro 255 hi-pressure. Which, new testing states, outflows the z32 at higher pressures, yet doesn't outflow the fpr.-Jeff

Yeah.. but you still have to pay twice as much for the walbro one. Rembember.. cost is the greatest concern in this project.

From what ive read, they said that 250-275 hp is about the max they are gonna push out on a stock fuel pump.

So if its anything below a 250hp setup id' say go for it.

Yeah.. I'm gonna try it out.

I'm anticipating my power level to be less than 250hp. But more power would be great too.

Why dont you just step up the voltage to your fuel pump to get that little bit extra out of it? That would be cheep.

I just swapped out my stock for the Walbro thats been sitting in my room... I was leaning out at 5k with the stock at 10-12psi now the walbro lets me push the 11psi to 6500 at 12.5/1... (I'm going to step up the pressure untill I get some 550cc's)

How would I go about doing that?

I wouldn't feel comfortable driving around beating the fuel pump to death. I'm cheap, but not that cheap. But if it's safe, I'll consider it.

yeah but if the car is old and you are running a rrfpr (fmu) then you really don't wanna risk it. its cheap insurance...

Anyway.. as I searched through my past threads, I thought I should update this:

The z31 fuel pump works fine, although I'm currently still using it NA... You need to modify the assembly a little to get it to fit, but it's a piece of cake. The pickup hardline on the assembly had to be shortened, and the bottom of the assembly(where the pump sits) had to be bent a little... the whole assembly modifying process takes 5 minutes, and the pump drops right in... the wiring connections are the same.
