Its not a life or death thing, but I would like to make my cruise control work. I currently have the brown/yellow(park) spliced into the green/blue(constant 12V) to enable my top to work. If what I have read is correct, I need to have brown/white (drive) spliced in to green/blue instead to make it think its in drive for cruise to work. By doing that I need to bypass computer and get power to operate the top.

My question is, do the top up and down switches work off positive or negative? In other words, can I simply run a switched power source to one side of the top switches to make the top operate?

There's a 12v supply wire that goes to the top switch. If you energize that, your top will work, allowing you to splice the drive circuit at the inhibitor. Just grab the vert FSM to look up the wire color in the electrical subsection

i think this is a dumb question, but are the wiring harness the same for a vert and a non vert?

You made that sound so easy, so I went to the FSM electrical, and HOLY s***!!!!! How do you guys understand that, and what language is it in?????? I guess I am destined to just not have my cruise work, as I can't make heads or tails out of it!

Ok, it's pretty easy once you figure out how to look at an electrical diagram.

Turn to page 20-19 for the wiring diagram. If you look at the top up/down switch, you'll notice it has 5 wires coming off of it.

1 5 3x 6 4

That's the pinout, x is a blank spot in the plug. There's a green wire going to pin 3 that is coming from the inhibitor plug. This is the power wire, it is supplied only when the inhibitor is set to park or neutral. What you do is cut the wire near the switch and tap it into something that is on an ignition switched circuit. I tend to use the radio for a circuit to tap into, but you may want to use something else. The cigarette lighter is a good candidate too. It's tapped off a 15A fuse, and is the only thing on its circuit. Just don't run the top AND have something plugged into the lighter at the same time. The wire for the lighter is Orange/Black. And you can get to it by pulling the center console.

Thanks Hijacker!!!! I could not read the diagram, but with the info you just gave I will be able to do it. I really appreciate your efforts on this.

I think I finally understand how to make both cruise and top work. I'll definitely try this in the future.

You can always do the trick my dad used to do on his old truck... coke cable lightly modified makes an easy cruise control... but i don't recommend going that direction
