I usually turn out sharply, and then straighten out, so I am aligned head on with the left turn lane directly across from me. You can see alot better, without having to inch the front of you car into the intersection to see around the cars turning left across from you. If I didn't do that it would be like playing russian roulette at the intersections near where I work since there is always alot of trucks, and those are damn near impossible to see around the conventional way.
