Ok so I did a minor rebuild to this engine about 3 years ago and now after one day at the track My catch can fills with this fantastic looking crap.

Yeah I know Ca's blow...oil that is but I dont remember it looking like the silver surfers man juice. Mind you I only use my oil for 1-2 drift days max. And since I was a little low on funds this time around instead of using rp 10/30 I went for the cheap gtx 10/30. I don't know if that had anything to do with it but I'm just stating everything. So after the car running like a champ for the first drift event and the oil looking like crap I did an oil change. The next day after a couple runs the exhaust started to smoke badly but only when I was off the throttle. I don't think the turbo went because it was purchased brand new and I never really let it overboost which is what killed my last turbo.

So I decided to take everything apart and see what went wrong. And from what I'm finding is that the bottom of the valves are covered and burnt with what feels like sand paper.

The pistons seem to have some light scaring if any on the longest part of the walls but the cylinder walls seem to fine to me.

But what I did notice is that the upper half inch of the cylinder wall feels a little recessed and of a different material or color.

Basically all of this still looks better than the last time I pulled my motor but I'm still wondering where all of this metal could be coming from? Any ideas?

The silver is either from:

A) Your head being chewed away in the cam galleries (unlikely but possible)

B) You crank or rod bearings chewed (highly likely)

C) Your piston rings are chewed (likely as you seem to be having a lot of blow-by)

Edit: Whoops, I was looking at the little fleck looking things on the outside of the bottle I've never seen that grey/silver goo before.....

I can't explain the grey matter, but a few things could be causing your engine to spit-up oil. It definitely involves windage, crank case pressure and poorly sealed rings, so i would have to ask:

1. Did you measure the cylinder bores before installing new rings?

2. Did you hone the cylinders before installing new rings?

3. If you did hone the cylinders, did you do it correctly?

4. Did you install the piston rings correctly?

5. Did you properly seat your rings or break-in your refreshened engine?

6. Did you do a head-job before you put the engine back together?

Some advice, really inspect this motor before sticking new parts in there. I've over-heated an engine until it lost most of it's compression, but I've never seen the crap that's in that container. And lastly looks like a alot carbon, burnt water and oil in that combustion chamber.

Ok so by minor rebuild all I did was slap a head gasket with some arp headstuds and replace the bearings. I didn't even take out the pistons so no to the first 4 questions and for break in I drove the car nice for 300 miles straight the first day and then I went drifting the next day lol. I'm gonna look at the head again tomorrow to see if there is anything I missed.
