Ok, to steal a line from Scareface the movie. And no this is not some sick thread.

I have a new acquisition.

I hope to employ it as a carry handgun. It fires well and I need a bit more practice with the gun to get use to it, but will do the job.

This weapon was bought to be a concealed carry weapon. If you have to ask what its job is, then we need to have a discussion off-line.

Awesome choice! Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable. If it doesn't fire, you can still hit them over the head with it.

Nice piece.

I carry a Colt 1991A1 Compact Officer's Model .45ACP as my carry piece. I used to carry a Glock 21 as my carry piece. Awesome weapon, but too big for the CW permit I had. Plus, I can hit alot tighter groups with the Colts than I can the Glock. Not sure why. The Glock is a technically superior weapon, but the 1911 and the 1991A1 feels like they are an extension of my arm.

Nice thing is it takes standard mags.

I spent 3 years as an apprentice gunsmith. Taurus makes nice weapons, but I prefer the ACP.

My loads are, however, custom loads that I use. 185gr jacketed hollow point with 7 grains of Unique powder. Even in the 2 3/4" barrel of the compact, they're traveling a about 1,100fps. For comparison, the standard 230gr ball that is in a standard ACP round travels at about 850fps.

I was initially looking at the Ruger SP101. I was torn, but the Taurus was cheaper than the Ruger. But the Ruger seems to have better quality. What I will probably do it buy a larger frame revolver (Super Redhawk) chamberd for the 454 Casull so that I can also shoot the 45 Long shot as well.

Thats extremely fast...I wouldn't expect a round like that to have too much stopping power...more like go in and come right back out.

Actually, I patterend the round after a round used by a police friend of mine.

He was using the exact same head, Horniday XTP, loaded with the same 7 grains of Unique, in his off-duty weapon. He ended up having to use it one night. He took a six inch piece out of a rapist's spine with it. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me.

45 ACP moving at 1,100 FPS would be wicked. I think the rounds that I was shooting today were spec'ed at 1295 FPS. Obviously a lot less lead though.

Is there a problem with Brazilian made products. There are a few Brazilian made women that are fine quality.

Nice mag. I would have went with the Ruger, but I am just a Ruger person. I haven't shot the sp101, but my last CCW was an older model Ruger. Speed six in .38 plus P. I actually got where I liked that better than carring my 9mm. But alas, got broke and sold it. Now I just have the P95DC.

EDIT: A friend had the Titanium 357 they loved it.

loooks nice, Taurus is eons better in the few years.

revolvers work nicely and are convient, but a little uncomfortable after a while due to width, not that auto's are that much better, but usually are a little slimmer.

6 shot?

while on the topic....how is the law applied about "concealed" weapons? Is it outright illegal, or only in places where specified?

Legal in Arizona with a permit.

No permit required to open carry in Arizona.

So if you ever visit, don't freak out if you see people from time to time walking around with hip artillery on.

The law differs from state to state. It is legal in Indiana to carry with a CCL permit, but the state does stipulate where and where not you can carry. The biggest one that they always tell you is a no-no is Riverboat Casinos. Indiana reciprocates with most other states' CCLs and some states honor Indiana's CCL. Ohio has started to honor Indiana's CCL which is a big change. We use to not be able to carry or transport our handguns in/through Ohio.

I dont carry openly, for the fear of people freaking out and cops giving you a hard time. Not sure if its legal in Indiana.

Yum. I like the snub nose. Never seen a good pic of one before. Nice choice! I can't wait to get my first handgun. I'm thinking a Colt Defender .45 or mabye a Glock 17 (C if I can afford it)

yeah, can't carry where alcohol is served and some states where it's purchased. that's the biggest.

most states require a permit to carry concealed, a few allow open carry, can't remember who though...

Vermont doesn't require a permit, and it's also the lowest state in the country for Violent crimes.

NC no carring concealed on government property. Schools, banks, and any buisness saying no weapons allowed is strictly prohibited.

But other than that you can carry concealed with a permit. Take a specified shooter safety course, and pay a 90 dollar permit fee, wait 90 days, and there you go. County Sheriff's have the over all saying if you get one or not, if you quailify the state quidelines. They also may make you wait different time periods before getting your permit. (sheriff=alot of power in NC).

I took the class, but never paid the 90 dollars, as I feel it is a waste. It is common for nearly all buisness to have signs not allowing you to carried concealed. So I keep mine in my truck.

I use to be paranoid. Had my nine on the seat beside me, and either my Mac 90 or 12 gauge in the trunk. Had some friends that some drunks held a gun on them while trying to beat them up at our local hang out spot. i know the Mac was a bit of over kill, but hey, i am one of those crazy gun nuts.

probably just a little bit.

It's probably illegal too, but I'm not up to date on NC's laws.
