okay so here's a quick rundown of my project.

my 90 240 hatch had a ka-e that blew on me.

found a parts car, 93 coupe..high milage but great price (250.00) and its COMPLETE

so far i have both engine bays empty, started swapping over ps lines..until the dohc broke got ps resiviour, coil, switched over. cleaned up engine bay, removed a/c lines etc...

did a dash swap, parts car had a mint one, mine had 3 cracks.

so i was told to run the engine harness once i got my dash out and it would be alot easier...it was

went to plug in the engine harness plug into the body harness, and they didnt match up..so i checked the sticky and found the answer..kinda.

zerothread?id=162443

it mentions 5 wires...ylw/red, ylw/grn, org, blk, blu/blk

the dohc plug, if i remember counting them, has like 9 wires and the sohc has more...

now im not outside to check, but, i wouild assume that i need more then these 5 to get the car running correctly and have everything work..

if im wrong and just cautious plz let me know becaue im not going to cut the thing off and put the new one on until i have a definitive answer no matter how i get it.

right after i post this im going to go outside with the new info, and double check the wires again and see what i can come up with but any and all help would be much much appreciated!! thanks!!

theres 11 wires on the plug

those 5 match up along with 3 more.

solid red, solid green, and blue/green stripe

the 3 left over are grn/blk grn/wht grn/ylw

now it mentioned that "the left over wires are for the sohc daignostic" does that mean those 3 wires? or the other 6 not mentioned? (on the sohc body harness plug)

1. Locate the body harness (under dash harness that attached to the ECU) that attached to your old harness. Cut the old connector off (the one that attached to your SOHC harness) and attach your DOHC body harness connector. Just match the colors!Yellow/Red --TachYellow/Green--SpeedometorOrange--Ignition startBlack---GroundBlue/Black---Water temp sensor

thats all u need

okay another problem and i couldnt find the aswer..

the speedo cluster..

i removed the cluster wire harness (cut it off the dohc) and started splicing it onto the sohc wire cluster.

i got thru 21 or the 27 wires, the other 6 are red/blk stripe, blk, green/ylw stripe

now thats only 3 colors, but 6 wires..as in i got doubles and i dont want to mix match them.

on the body harness side of the wire cluster there's 2 plugs, a black one and a white one (i didnt realize i could just unplug old harness and plug new one in until i looked ) and on the speedo cluster theres 3 plugs, one black one and 2 white ones

i dont know if there's a similarity to the wires going to the same colored plugs or not.

anyone please!

okay so while attempting to read the wiring diagram i think i came across a couple answers, kinda

red/blk stripe fuse a (wire number 30) fuel tank unit (wire number 9)

ylw/grn stripe eccs cntrl (pin 32), a/t crtl (pin 24), cruise (wire number 7) auto seat belt (pin 34) (wire number 23)

blk cruise, lcd illuminatoin (number 4) directionals (number 15) electric spd (hud) (number 28)

now i dont have hud so that makes up for that extra grouind wire. but as for the other color wires, i cant find which plug they actually go to..ive been looking at diagrams hoping one would say like "wire #30 (fuse a) goes to plug brown" or something to make it a little easier lol.

so im still lost.

I'm not sure why you did anything with the body harness. you should be able to leave the sohc dash wiring in the dash, and splice the 5 (or more) wires at the connector above the ecu (white on sohc, brown on dohc, i believe). OR, if you took the dohc dash AND body (dash) harness then you should be able to use the dohc wiring though out.

I guess really I should just ask why, and what exactly are you doing with that harness?

the reason i spiced the cluster wires together is because i stupidly didnt take the cluster harness out from the dohc dash, i only took the plug off it.

i didnt realize i could take the whole harness until AFTER i cut the plugs off the 2 harness's then started splicing the dohc plug onto the sohc harness..

i jumped too fast and didnt look, thats the why and how lol

I still don't understand, and would like to avoid you doing something you don't need to do. You already know to leave the gauge cluster and dash wiring alone right? And you know the only connector you need to change is attaching the sohc lower dash connector to the dohc "engine" harness, in place of it's lower dash connector? (matching these wires to the input of the sohc upper dash connector) All of which is located on the passenger side?

Or am I mistaken and you are trying something else? Like tach wiring or something?Best in Luck!

when you do the swap you need to either change one wire to make the sohc cluster work with the dohc ecu OR you can change the sohc cluster with the dohc cluster.

now i swapped in the dohc cluster into my car, and i SHOULD have just grabbed the dash harness for the cluster out of the parts car. but i didnt know that, so i cut the cluster plug off the harness, and spliced the dohc cluster plug on to the sohc dash harness (like i said it was a stupid mistake, i didnt pay attention.)

its all done, the swap is complete, and yes i did one full step that i didnt have to do.

Very glad to hear you are finished! Congrats! I'd like to ask, I thought the dohc gauge cluster was plug and play with the sohc cluster? not true? And, what did you do with/about power steering lines? A/C? thank you sir!

no the cluster's are different. you can use the sohc cluster for the dohc engine, but you have to switch one wire or something for the tach to work properly.

or you can unplug the dash harness for the cluster and swap them out. thats where i screwed up because i didnt know you can unplug them, so i cut the plug off the cluster back and swapped the plugs.

as far as a/c lines you do have to change them from what im told if you want to keep the a/c, personally i ripped the whole system out, ac condensor, lines and everything.

as far as power steering you need to swap in the de lines, pump, resivour. its all in this link:

I've read that page, for sure, but I was wondering what You did for/about PS. Are you saying you swapped all the dohc parts in? I was just curious.

I only got half of the dohc PS stuff for my swap, and am trying to work the sohc lines, and may mix parts from both if need be. fingers crossed.
