Hello everyone.

I currently own a 300ZX (which I will never sell) use to own an NSX as well as a few other regular cars and have recently gotten into the 240SX scene. I still know very little about 240s so please bear with me.

A couple friends of mine have recently gotten s14 and s13 240sxs and some have done front end conversions, rb swaps, sr swaps ect and the whole crowd seems very interesting to me. I would really like to get a 240sx and was actually in the market right now looking for a good reliable 4 seater car in the 30-35k range. I was looking at g35s, used bmw m3s, civics, ect..basically just looking for something nice but still a 4 seater and capable of being used daily.

Anyways, after looking at some of my friends cars I decided that I would like to keep it in the Nissan family and get a 240sx. My first choice was to get a nice low mileage s14 kouki (sp?) and keep it stock to have as a nice car...not to mention the price is excllent being around only $10k. I then heard about the s15..apparently a 240 that was never sold in america and has to be imported. I did a little research and looked up pics, engine specs, ect and this would be a great car for me and I believe that it will still be within the -$35k range once it is legalized and all which I do NOT want to go over.

Anyways, as far as getting the car to America, this will not be a problem..I have relatives in japan and have been there several times in the past and have also dealt with the shipping of cars from Hawaii (I know not japan) to California, then driving them to Texas ect, so the buying and shipping of the car is not the part I'm worried about.

I am just concerned with what in the world you do to get the thing legalized. I honestly have no idea where to go about this and like I said I am still very new to the 240 crowd so I really won't even try to act like I know what I'm talking about. I am planning on going to the local DPS on Monday to see if they can shed me some light on what needs to be done, but if any of yall could heelp me out especially if any of yall live in Texas, then your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to the replies.

sorry that I can't help but as soon as you get it post pics, or you could also go with an infiniti G35 sedan, or coupe. they're nice and really sporty. the G35 coupe here in the US is the (basically) same as the V35 skyline in Japan.

Check out Motorex, they charge quite a bit but if you talk to them they may help you, or at least let you know how hard it may be.

uuum, its not really "legal" but the easiest way i see to get around this is to buy a fooked s14 with a clean title, swap the vins and register the s15 as an s14. i know a thing or two about importing a vehicle as i damn near imported a skyline (89 gtst) before i bought my s13, and its rough as hell even in alabama. it took me a few months to find a way through the system, but theres a way. i think the s15 will be too new to just import and register, itll be like motorex and their skylines, youll have to get it crash tested and all that jazz. of course you can always import one and worry about that later.

agreed. I know the regulations differ between Canada and the US, my roomate just finished importing a Celica GTFour RC and there is lots of work involved. Do your homework first!

I dont know if the same law applies in the states, but to my understanding the s15 cannot be imported as it is under 15 years of age (thats why he had to wait till september for the GTFour). Obviously if you have a big enough wallet and the right know how there are ways around the legal system, the most effective being the VIN swap with an s14

Good luck with the import, keep us posted and if you get one we demand pictures

curious...i know this isn't technically legal, but would buying a completely trashed out s14 here and spending a couple weeks in the garage swapping vins to the s15 actually be possible? then you can just say you swapped, the motor, the interior, the body lol?

has anyone really done this? seems a little fishy, but i guess it is a possibility. sorry about not using caps by the way, i injured my left hand and it is a pain pushing the shift button for the next few weeks.

thanks for the help yall. s15s go for aroung 20k in japan, then another 2-3k for shipping to the states and a cheap s14..this could possibly even be under 30k which would be cool. i will look more into this, but in all reality if i can't 100% fool the system, then i will NOT take the chance and i'll just get a nice stock s14 as a daily. thanks for the help yall.

oh and i will also still be looking for ways to do this legally if anyone knows. i would much rather spend 35k and be legal than sped 25k and be "legal". thanks.

My car came from his place. He does very nice work and is 100% legit.

But a guy i know that lives in Japan and gets me all my JDM **** can get you one.He used to work for US customs and knows all the loopholes. Hes super cool and down to earth. If i hadn't bought the car i have i would have bought a Skyline from him a while ago. He could get Chasers, Silvias, or any other JDM car. Best part is, they are US ROAD LEGAL. Expect to pay around 17-18k for a street legal R32 GT-R Hit him up for sure....let him know that i sent you. He's usually on AIM Here is his site...http://www.ghost-dancer.com If you talk to him and are seriously interested...let me know

Thanks,Chase

I talked to him and he told me that there is NO WAY to make an S15 fully legal once it is here in America. He said you can get papers ect for it, but that it still is not fully legal.

He did however say that you can legalize the car fully while it is still in japan, but the process costs about $30k over the price of the car. That'll go way over my $35k daily driver budget, so I think I'll stick with my other daily driver choices. Damn it.

Sucks too, someone very close in the area actually has an s15 and is wanting to get rid of it since it is not legal. Oh well, it was nice talking on the Silvia forum for a while Have a good one yall.

you dont need to 'keep it in the family'

if you can get outside the nissan 2door box for a sec, you have a chance to get a jzx100 chaser (hotness) or a cefiro for (if i read correctly) well within your $35k budget

and those cars arent on anyones (authority-wise) hotbutton or radar +baller points

or you could seriously just get a G35X (awd sedan, less than the awd GTR is going to be) and call it a day but either way, after i get settled in the new job, and have a motgage on my first house (within 2 years) i plan on getting a canadian-imported 92+ GTR, ..... or i may wait for a JZX100 (my daily driver is in my sig below... and some rod-knock accelerated it from being just a DD into getting a 1JZ-GTE swap... instead of the 7mGTE that i had planned on..... do it once, do it right (plus 5 or 6 speed swap later on)

slick sedans = sex, esp for street cars

the s-chassis cars dont really qualify as a 4-seater car unless you are an amputee from the waist down. maybe you would be happier with another choice

Agreed. It wasn't just keeping it in the family. I also just felt that that car was a very nice looking, fun and reliable car with resonable mileage and reliability. That's all. For that I'll gladly pay $35k...not $50k or more though. That's the amount of money you start spending on the cars you really want Like me having my Z or the NSX I use to own ect.

Thanks for the advice on cars to get. I now really just have it down to 3 choices. G35 (25k), 04 M3 (35k), or super clean and nice S14 Kouki (10k). Thanks for the help yall, and I am truley dissapointed I can't get that car, but it's ok.

Thanks again.
