legalizing a gtr that is up to canadian spec

if you buy a r32 gtr that has been brought up to canadian inspection standards how hard would it be to then import it into the states and get it legalized here is it any different then just bring it over from japan and if the car is already 15 years old would that make it any easier?

theres a guy out here in Socal that has an r32 gt-s with Alberta plates. iirc, he goes back to Alberta every 2 years for registration or something
