No cop in Iowa will do anything to you Cosmo.

I don't know the rules about letting them under your hood, I would suppose it varies state to state and possibly even town to town.

chances are then he'd politely ask you see your CARB sticker for that turbo kit and all your other aftermarket parts he can find at that time.

your best off finding a way to aviod opening that hood at all.

it happened to my buddy who has a turbo civic. got stopped by the CHP on his way home from san diego one night. for something small ( think it was not having his license plate in the front) and then the cop just asked him politely to pop his hood, and just went thru everything with a fine tooth comb. he had a carb legal turbo and stuff, but the CHP officer was not buying any of that. filed some paper work and so my friend had to go to some SMOG referee and get everything more or less "factory". the chp officer even wrote down that the vent tubes (colored, yes he is a ricer :( ) were not legal to have.

so i think the best offense in this situation is a good defence

this one guy on a different forum got pulled over by a cop and he just said no when the cop told him to pop the hood. he started telling the cop all this stuff about his 5th amendment rights and how he cant be searched without a warrent. it worked pretty good since the cop just got pissed and left. if the cop really knows his laws, then you can tell him that he's not legally allowed to make you open ut hood unless theres something thats illegal thats visible from the outside. its good to know the laws :)

Does anyone know the emissions laws in Illinois? I'm considering doing the swap sometime in the future, but aren't clear on the laws.

If he says no. They cop can pop it himself because of "suspecion" (sp)....Life sucks that way, but we have to live it....stupid cops...I dont like any of them....not even 1...When i had my civic, I was tapped from behind. Just my luck, a cop was a couple cars behind...came to make sure everything was okay.....and gave me a no front plate ticket"...how gay is that?

thats just wrong... i've met a few decent cops, but they are rare.

just give me another reason i'm going to disable my hood release on the drivers side. i think i'll just re run the cable to go to the other side, and have it mounted on the back side of the glove box.

cops....

SrSleePeR: BTW nice site...was fun to read and had a good deal of information.

im pretty sure if u dont let a cop see under the hood, he cant do anything about it. If he looks becuase of suspicion, he has to have a reason to think you have illegal engine mods. and he cant just say his reason was because you had a bodykit and a wing. that probly wont hold up in court. but if you had something illegal on the exterior on your car, like its too low, then you probly wouldnt have a case.
