Im not from cali but based on what Ive read, you're gonna need CARB EO numbers for everything.. no kits for sale currently have those certifications, so therefore it is pretty much impossible to make a legal KA-T

you have the following options:

1. Pay the guy to pass you2. Move out of Cali3. petition your car to have it certified as smog legal, with all the bureaucracy you are looking at 2-6 years of waiting time.4. keep the emissions of your car, when testing day comes, take out the turbo, and put in your stock manifold. I don't mind wasting a weekend once every 2 years

not really, if you get caught and sent to the ref, it's not that hard to take apart your turbo parts into stock form, that's the beauty of it, unlike the sr, it's a whole engine swap...

It really shouldn't be THAT hard to take off the turbo manifold, put the stock header/cat combo back on and then remove piping from the intercooler(you could leave IC there and say its for looks) then put the stock intake back on. I can't see that taking more than a few hours if you put lots of antiseize on all the bolts and whatnot.

Just make sure whatever engine management you go with, you can pass emissions with a cat.

You should try installing and removing a Rev-Hard Mani with mechanical lock nuts then.

Nothing a 32" breaker bar can't handle! :)

Assuming it is a well designed manifold that allows you to get to all the bolts that is...

Haha....unless that breaker bar is actually designed to "break" the mani. You'll never get it in some of the spots.

And it's not that you can't get to all the bolts. But some are in awkward locations (particularly the lower rear bolts) and the manifold to head nuts from Nissan are Mechanical locknuts. Which means you have to turn it with a wrench most of the way. And not only that, but with such tight clearances, some of the nuts have to be tightened a little at a time. If you tighten one too far, it could make it so you can not get a nut on one of the other studs, or even if you thread them all on first, a runner may run into one of the nuts. It's a PITA, especially the first time. But even after that, access to the nuts is limited and usually you end up using just your fingers to turn the wrench. I'd prefer to pay extra not to have to ever remove my turbo system again. regardless of how good I have gotten at doing it.
