I am having problems with my left taillight on my 92 240sx fb. Whenever I hit the brakes the bulb doesn't turn bright for the left taillight, but it only lights up regularly when I'm not touching the brakes. I tried switching the bulb with the right taillight to check if it was the bulb, but it wasn't. I also checked the fuse, and it was good. Does anyone know why it would do this? Possibly a short, or fuse I overlooked?

So the tailights work and the brakelights don't. I had this problem recently with the same left tailight. What happened was the plastic around the two ground wires on the tailight assemblies melted over the ground wire and caused a bad connection preventing my brake lights from working correctly. If you take out your tailight/brakelight assembly and look at where the two ground wires to the brakelights are mounted there is probably melted plastic there. Just chip it away and unscrew the ground wires and chip away the melted plastic under there, put everything back together and it should work just like before. The thing I still haven't figured out is why the plastic melted in the first place.

i'll double check in the morning... i also noticed while coming home from work, that with my headlights on the left brake light works. i'll also double check that in the morning to see if my brake light is working now.

yea power is going to the bulb. when the brakes isn't pressed down the bulb lights up regularly, it's just that it doesn't light up when i step on the brakes. i also switched the bulb with the right taillight, and the problem still occured.

That's what was happening to me. I changed out the bulbs twice and I noticed that the light would light up fine when I turned the lights on but when I stepped on the brake pedal it would go dark while the other light and the spoiler brake light would light up accordingly.

Did you check the ground wire mounting points to see if the plastic had melted over them?
