High, I'm new to the site and I'm not sure I'm in the right place, but here I go.

I have a 2015 QX60 and recently discovered that the left side Hi and Lo beams do not function. I checked the fuses, #35 and #37 in the #1 fuse box and they look fine (I guess I could check them with a meter to be sure).

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Any other places to check that won't challenge my electrically challenged brain?

Thanks in advance for any input.

The WD shows the Q60 having dual-focus HID's, where there's a single bulb with a solenoid that changes the focus for high beam. That means your problem could be anything in the HID circuit, the bulb, the ballast, the igniter, or the wiring (probably the ground if that's the issue). You'll have to get at it to do any diagnosis. The bulb is definitely serviceable, but the ballast/control unit may not be.

I just confirmed it in ASIST, the ballast and igniter are internal and can't be serviced without baking and disassembling the headlight. Chances are you just have a bad bulb, but if not, the whole combination lamp needs to be replaced.

VStar is correct, it is a single bulb (bi-xenon).

Do this to test if its bulb or ballast: stand with your ear next to the headlight and have someone turn the lights on. Do you hear a faint buzz for 10 or so seconds? If not, your ballast is toast. If you do, but no light, then your bulbs are bad.

Bulbs are somewhat easy to replace (at least based on my M56x) but the ballasts are harder to replace as they are attached to the headlight and you have to remove the headlight assembly.

From what I could see on the Q60 lamps, the ballasts and igniters are inside the lamp housing and can't be unscrewed and replaced like your M. What's inside might be the same ballast/igniter, but it appears you can't get at it without baking and opening the assembly.

Ahh, I misread what you wrote as I was 'slacking' in a meeting lol.

You may be correct. I think that can be circumvented though. Just unplug the original ballast/ignitor connector, cover it up with something like a rubber cap and electrical tape and then connect the wiring harness to an aftermarket ballast, mount that, run the aftermarket ignitor to the bulb.

Yep, that'll work as long as there's room for a ballast. He'll also have to carve a "let" in the bulb access cap to allow the igniter wire through.

Wow, great info all! I believe this will be one for the dealer to handle. Might still be some warrantee coverage there. I'll let you all know when it's all said and done.

Thanks again!

Yeah, now that I think about it, I had to make a 'let' for my M56x aftermarket bulb connector.

Just wanted to shout out to all of you for the great information.

After all this and checking online and on Youtube (my go to tutorial) I realized I could do it myself.

The biggest issues were just being able to twist my wrist to get into the driver's side assembly and getting the little clip, that holds the bulb in place, off and back on.

Haven't tried the passenger side yet since I don't need to, but saw other unique challenges due to having to remove the windshield washer fluid tube. Hopefully, will have more clearance on that side.

Is it really easier to get to the back of the headlight assembly from the wheel well?

Dunno about your Q specifically, but on most N/I products, yes.
