How do I get this friggin' nut off?! My ratchet kept popping off, so I tried beating the extention with a hammer. Then I tried just heating it up with a torch. Nothing. Can any one help? Please?

I unbolted all my mounts from under the car (one nut on each side) with a long socket, an extension, and an impact gun. This will basically keep the mounts on the motor, but unbolts the mounts from the crossmember.

On a side note, try spraying some rust penetrator and let it sit.

yeah, i had a stubborn left nut as well.... LOL. I ended up rounding it off. I tried wd-40 impact guns, etc. Ended up having to cut the motor mount off. it was a biotch

I rounded it off, burnt it, and, most importantly, swore at it.

Eventually I stole some of those sockets that are made for taking off rounded nuts/bolts. This is what came out:

Yup, get a nut remover set from Sears. They look like a socket with a spiral inside to grab to a rounded nut. Works like a charm.

Actually, you can just take out the lower arm of the suspension, not sure what its called and back it out enough to get a entension on it. Pretty much line the extension up with the nut and right where it lays against the lower bolt that makes it difficult to get a straight shot, back THAT bolt out first to give you the room you need.

I got it red hot and got it off with a regular socket wrench. Melted part of the motor mount (boy did that stink).

I just used a wobble extension to clear the LCA/other stuff that's in the way, then a 24" breaker bar and it popped right off.

well i used the wobble + extension + breaker bar on one and it came easily. but the left had decided that it was not coming off, period. So i used a Saw-Zaw and cut the motor mount. I didn't have near the problems with my first swap.

Use a 14mm stubby wrench, another wrench and a rubber mallet. The 14 stubby goes on the nut, the other wrench in the open end of the wrench, and the mallet to strike the hell out of the two. It popped off without too much of an issue on several motors I've had to lift since I found my 14 stubby in my toolbox.

I drilled right through the motormount into the stud and it popped right off. Took a while but I didn't mess up anything besides being messy.

Carlos! Nice of you to join the light side of the web forums :D

he got it off using a whole lot of force and I believe a splined socket (the kind used to get stripped nuts and bolts off)

I just used an impact wrench on the last motor I had to pull. But not everyone has access to those :rolleyes

This motor has stripped three (!) of my sockets. I guess thats the price I paid for going cheap(er) on tools. Now I have the joy of converting from metric every time I want to use a socket. Ugh.

BTW, Craftsman tools rule. As do hacksaws and crowbars. And ghettorigged breaker bars. :)
