ok i have a 89 240 fastback and my problem is is that it stays on no matter what i do.i jus noticed it today when my brother pointed it out to me.i tried flipping the switch to see if i could turn it off after i switch both lamps on but the L HL stayed on.i tried taking out the fuse thats in the fusebox on the left hand side of the engine bay but that didnt work unless thats the wrong one??

last thing im gonna do right after this is jus take out the assembly and pull out the harness jus so my lamp doesnt drain my battery.someone pls help?

ok problem solved.what i did was take out the fuse for the R HL and that didnt work.then i took out the fuse for the L HL and that worked.for some reason when i put the fuse for the R HL the lights came back on but when i swiched places for the fuses both of them stayed off.went to check them by turning on my headlamp switch and both worked fine and turned them right off.anyone know why by switching the places for the fuses that it solved the problem?

you have a short. check both your headlamp connectors at the lights for melting.

if i have a short then the headlamps shouldnt come on right?where would the short b actually?at the connectors going to the lamps or in the fuse box b cuz from what i see the fuses are still intact.

NISTECH,

Where are you in NorCal ?

Maybe I will come by and show you my HL problem. Dealership charged me 174$ just to tell me that they couldn't figure out the problem and they needed another 174$ to keep searching with no guarantees of fixing it.

Basicaly when my low-beam is on it feeds 6V to the high beam light on the right side. Grounding is OK. Dealership said it could be an alarm. How probable is that ?

Thank you.

Ok NIS thanks for your help.will check out the headlamp socket as soon as the weather clears up a bit here. Here in Hawaii its pretty much winter already, cept' it doesnt snow.mostly rains off and on but we're lucky if we have a nice, clear, sunny and breezy winter like we did last yr.

Rob,

Sorry for stealing your thread, but we seem to have a simillar problem.

NISTECH,

Thank you for you support.

Here's what delaership concluded.

1. Sockets are not melted.2. All grounding is intact3. Wiring harness was traced to the alarm for cross-feeds. None found.

Dealership thinks it is the alarm. Can you suggest where else could I look before I take to alarm center ?

Thanks.

well heres why i went after the headlight sockets had a 95 or 96 altima come in the other day. complaimnt was R/H headlight will not shut off and horn sounds all the time but once battery disconnected all is good. well brought car into shop began diag. all was fine turned headlights on left light was out right one was on an functioned normally and alarm horn was blarin. turn head lights off R/H was still lit and horn still blarin. left head lamp still out. traced problem to melted left hand head lamp socket melted high beam wire to low beam wire and blew left hand head lamp fuse. this short was back feeding the alarm system. Once the head lamps were turned on this back feed would trigger the alarm and it would stay active honking the horn and running the short circuit back into the lighting keeping the R/H head light illuminated once the switch was turned back off.

So you can see why I suspected the sockets.
