I have read that installing led interior lights on my 2015 q70 5.6 could fry a wiring harness and bcm. Should I forget about installing them or if I disconnect my battery I don't have anything to worry about?

disconnect the battery or make sure the light is off before swapping the bulb out to not short anything.

THIS! I'm one of the ones it happened to and I'd consider myself a pretty knowledgeable backyard mechanic. Infiniti royally screwed up with how they did the electronics on this car (it's outdated, it's not fused properly and it has stupid features like ECM controlled alternators). No wonder why Infiniti is teetering on collapse. My Elite Warranty saved me from what resulted in a nearly $6k repair bill.

Thanks just wanted to make sure that turning light off or disconnecting the battery will put me in the clear. Thanks.

Does polarity apply? I've noticed some bulbs advertise "non-polarity". I guess I though that the issue with our cars was putting LEDs in backwards, not shorting the bus out because it was energized.

I believe polarity wasn't the issue. But just installing the led while lights were energized would cause hell. I think the leds don't have polarity for the most part but I could be wrong.

Hi Krys - I have a Q70 and upgraded all of the interior bulbs and the license plate to LEDs right after purchasing my car. I recommend using good LEDs - I purchased all of mine from VLED. The lighting look is so much better. I hadn't seen the warnings from Ilyas and did mine live, without removing the negative battery cable. I would learn from their guidance. For some reason, I believe that I did run into polarity issues and had to just flip them in the connector and then they worked. I haven't had a single issue or failure since doing the upgrade in October 2018.

Nice! I plan on doing the same. I will get my lights from the same place since you had a good experience. Thanks for the advice. Better bulbs could be the reason you didn't have any problems, or they fixed the issue by the time the name switched over to q70. Thanks again.

Yea that would be great because the website is showing 194 for dome light and I know thats not true by looking at the dome lights. I just want to change
Dome/map lights
All 4 Door lights
License plate lights
Rear passenger lights
And maybe mirror lights
Foot area lights
Whatever you got you can send it thanks man greatly appreciated. If you did all of them you can send me your set up for sure. I may be missing some. Thanks again.

I ordered the following from https://www.vleds.com/ :
  • 9 ea White Long Life 360 14 LED 194 5000K Natural White -194_14_W_5K_LL (doors, foot area, rear passenger overhead, trunk)
3 ea White Long Life Low Profile 1 LED 194 5000K Natural White – 194_1_W_5K (license plate - I ordered a spare and have not needed it)
    2 ea White Long Life 14 LED 360 57 BA9S 5000K Natural White – 57_14_W_5K (dome/map lights)
When looking at my prior orders they're showing a 20% site wide sale right now. They're a western Washington based company and when I order from them I typically get them the next day via USPS. Great company to work with and they honor their warranties.

I think that the only non-leds I have left in my Q70 are the rear turn signals. I started to do them once and found the space really tight and the bulbs I ordered wouldn't fit. I put them in wife's car. I've ordered another set of leds for the rear turn signals, but haven't had the time to install them as it is a pain to get to them. If the new ones I ordered fit, then I'll share the part number.

I'm also not running LED in rear, that's all that's left. I can't seem to find a set that won't hyperflash. I got two sets of the ones I have in front and when they are all installed in all four corners, they hyperflash. Remove the rears, no hyperflash.

I'll probably leave the rear turning signals alone they don't look bad and the fronts on the q70 are already led. I did order some 3m clear vynil to wrap the headlights for preservation.

The addition of two more LEDS is causing your circuitry to go haywire. You'll need to add resistors if you want them to stop hyperflashing.
