Rather than buy a set of LED Taillights, I was wondering if its possible to just change out the bulbs to LEDs? I ordered LBC's GTR Taillight Overlay, so I'd like to do the bulbs that show through the circle.......possible or not? And if so, which bulbs?

Thanks for any assistance

depends what look you're going for. if you want led tail lights that look like the infiniti G's, then no you can't replace the bulb with just an led bulb. changing the bulb in the tail lights to an LED won't give you that effect of individual leds, the only way to get that is to buy an aftermarket set or to custom make your own. changing the bulb to an led won't really look any different than stock unless you look really up close

i would say get something along the lines of this bulb. i have them and they are brighter than stock. they light up awesome at night and even during the day in the sunlight where LEDs do their worst.anyway make sure and get red LEDs for maximum brightness.

oh and P.S. do an ebay search for.... 3157 SMD red

No issues regarding the bulb burning too hot and screwing up the housing? Had that happen when I tried to replace my stock fog bulbs:(

that shouldn't happen with an LED bulb since leds produce very little heat, so if anything it will probably run cooler than stock halogens. however, this will just give you a brighter light, it won't give you that look of an led assembly like the infiniti g's

nope, i've had them for over a year. BUT some LEDs do actually get hot. like these: thats why they have a heatsink built around it to dissipate heat. no worries with the 3157 though. sometimes u will get an SMD that will burn out or a section that will flicker but i picked up a pair of bulbs off ebay for $20 and they have lasted me so far.

also i hear a lot about bulbs getting too hot for fog light housings. they even make LEDs to replace the actual glass bulb but they don't perform as well so mainly just for looks.

Yeah, I was trying to match my fog bulbs with HID headlights but that was a complete FAIL! Had to put the OEM bulbs back in. Im under warrenty, so will just leave them stock for now. Ordered the 3157 SMD LEDs Red Taillights from led_option on ebaymoters......$27 includes expedited shipping

Hey! If you find some reverse lights, please post! I would love to replace mine too. Ive got a long, kinda narrow driveway, and two times a week Im on the road by 5, its dark and Im having to roll my window down to back out.....yes, in part because my windows are tinted, but those darn back-up lights are not that bright anyway......anything would be better! Thanks for your input....very helpful!

no problem. and same here, sometimes my LED revers lights are bright enough to light up the road cuz my is dark and i have roll them down. i think if you go the same route as those SMD brake lights u will be ok. i'm just gonna try a $25 pair off ebay.

my next mod i wanna play around with is the 3rd brake lights strobe module. found it on VLEDS.com. and also the dual color LED blinker. i saw it years ago at a car show on an acura TL and looked sick. OH ME FIRST ME FIRST, DONT COPY!

I shall follow in your footsteps, oh LED sensei you first! Although, other than a backup LED, I wasn't trying to change much else!

Yes, I saw those too.....but here is my update...got the bulbs from LEDoption. Had a leaking tire valve, so while that was getting fixed I asked the guys to install the bulbs. One of the bulbs was defective and the guy told me they wouldn't work anyway, because they were not putting out more light when the brake was depressed, it just stayed the same as when the lights were on......I'm going to go full board....I ordered a set of Black LED Tails from ebay.....I have the GTR overlay on my tails now but the darn thing is trying to lift around the corners and I know its only a matter of time before they peel off completely......will post pics....good luck on the LED bulb search guys, I'd like to see what you end up with...

If you don't mind me asking dflane, but I was just wondering if you know the bulb number for the brakelight in our tails and the reverse light. Is it 3157 and 912?

After some more research, and the fact that I just HATE the color of the OEM foglight bulb, I found these. Unlike the Streetglows and the Piaas I had before, these of course don't burn nearly as hot and they are a great compliment to the HIDs.
