Has anyone ever used any of the manufacturers that pre-make the leather seats, consoles, door panels for the Q's? Companies like http://www.leatherseats.com claim to make the seat covers that can replace our worn leather instead of getting the leather from the dealer which can be expensive. The Q's leather is not glued to the foam so once an upholstery shop removes our leather they can simply replace it with the new leather. I am curious b/c my drivers side seat and door panel is wearing (tinted the windows, clean with leather cleaner & conditioner).

If you take it to an upholstery shop they can repair the seats but it will not be the same grain of leather being that the Q has a smoother grain of leather and the dealership prices are outrageous. And no vinyl is not an option (I would only consider it on the door panels b/c they wear so easy with the leather). I could replace the entire car's leather upholstery with new leather and just have to pay the upholstery shop to install it which would save a lot b/c they like to charge you for using their leather that they always get at a discounted price.

The door panels are a leatherette synthetic covering.

Read the previous thread by ddrumman about recovering his seats. There are a couple others when you search.

A recent thread on new seats showed some nice recoverings at a cost of $1000.

I did look into Leatherseats.com - the do not have a great color match for the light beige most of us have. Because of this they recommend covering both front an back seats.

The recent thread I believe is being reffered to was for both front seats done at a shop in Los Angeles. Maybe better to try and do a group by through that shop?

BTW - I've only noticed vinyl on the doors of the 96 MY G50. All others I've seen have leather.

Yeah, thats why I wanted to do the entire car b/c of the color and grain matches. With the differences in sun exposure and care it would be very hard to find a correct match. For a little over $1k we could freshen up our Qs with a new interior. I just wanted to know if anyone had used companies like that instead of going to an upholstery shop for the sewing and installation work. I am also going to buy the carpet from Joe to completely do the inside.

I wish that I had the vinyl on the doors vs. the leather b/c I believe it would hold up a lot better then the leather on the doors now.

I assure you you have the leatherette vinyl on the dorrs and not leather. It lasts well when maintained.

Leather vs. Pleather varies by year. Both of my 1990s had the leather all the way down to the rectangular padded area on the glove compartment - unless they did such a great imitation on the leatherette that they made it fuzzy like split hide leather on the back side. I think the leather door panels are pretty much bulletproof vs. the pleather in later years.

I sure would like to change the ghetto vinyl/leather in my Y33 to some real leather.

I think only the latter '95's and 96 had vinyl as both my 1995's and my 1990 are leather.

I have done a brief parts search for seats and seat components.

My 2000 Q seat drivers side is collapsed. The former owner was a big guy, not FAT but BIG and TALL. The seat is compressed and looks it.

The seat and/or parts would probably be available only from the Infinity dealers and/or parts sellers I'm thinking.

I found a complete seat priced at 1500 + bucks. The individual components are shown in the breakdown of the seat in the image but there is no provision to purchase just the cushion that I could find.

So the question is does anyone know of an alternate source for seat components for our cars?

I am aware that I could go to some one that does seats and that may well be the only way, but if I could locate just the cushion I feel sure that I could remove the leather, which is not in bad condition, and re-install on the new cushion. Plus re-using the leather would keep the same appearance.

TIA Jack
