Just thought I would pass on a tip. I have restored the leather in my 1965 Rover and other classics with this kit and the results are fantastic. The leather dye soaks in to the leather and you cannot tell it from original finish. I am now thinking of treating a few small areas on the door trims of my Infiniti.

I can thoroughly recommend this kit. I need to find a place that I can remove a small sample of leather so they can do the color matching

I think the door trim is actually vinyl and even the leather in the Q has some kind of coating that resists penetration of any fluid including preservatives. Let us know how your attempt works.

Door panels on the Q are NOT leather!

I recently saw a Q with the tops of the door panels worn to the point where the colored part had seperated from the backing... It's a VERY thin rubberlike coating, like a skin. Not encouraging, especially since a TINY spot on my driver's door has started to look a little "prunish" (is that a word?).

I've decided to go with vinyl resurfacing. About $100 per seat bottom, and most of the cost is labor.

Really? I'll have to look again. It does look finished, though.

Brian - No need to "look again".

Unless you're willing to dissect a perfectly good door panel, you'll only be able to see the surface - I've seen the "innards" and it ain't pretty. :(

I'm thinking this was a change in later models maybe in the 94 revision... the 1990 has leather door panels above the arm rest. I assume it's the same through 1993.

If it is not leather it is a good simulation. I was convinced the armrest and the area above it on my 94 Q was leather. The stiching at the front of the panel adds to the effect. Also I thought I had read on NICO about someone with a J30 who had had his door panels recovered because the original leather had cracked

In any event the kit I originally mentioned in the start of this thread would be great for anyone redoing their seats

I do believe on the '90 I had the top section of the door panels were leather. I've been told by a friend that owns and upholstery shop that most "leather" interiors include only the seat bottoms & back panels. The side panels on the seats are a leatherette material. I can attest to that 'cause my '97 drivers seat side panel & door armrest are in pretty bad shape. It looks like the rubber coating Greg describes.

The top of the door panels on 90-93 are leather, can't speak for later models. I bought a whole interior door panel off Ebay including all the switches as insurance against the day my door panel wears out. The drivers seat will go first then the passenger then the driver panel. The armrest my go 3 times,
