Leather Replacement/New Upholstery

1995/J30/140K My drivers seat is in terrrible condition. The leather is completely cracked and seperated in many places. Should I look to a junkyard for a new seat or find somebody that can re-upholster the seat. There rest of the leather in the car is excellent. As a matter of fact the back seats look like they have never been sit in. Thanks in advance for the help.

Any seat you get from the junkyard, will be leather just as old, and probably just as dry.

If your budget allows, try to get new leather on your seat.

I think on the J, only the tops of the seats are leather, the rest is vinyl.

If your budget is low, think about vinyl. Lately, the vinyl some companies use, is very close to leather, at a fraction of the cost.

Every major metropolitan area has upholstery shops.(Yellow pages)In my exp[erience they do great work, shop around a bit as estimates may vary.

its very enjoyable to ahve a as new leather seat.

How do you guys clean the cloth upholstery? I have tried many things, but they fade the upholstery or don't clean it at all.

Have you tried an upholstery shampooer? Good thing the only cloth uphostery on the J is the headliner.

You forgot about the area b/w the doors where the seatbelt is and the back dash. What kind of upholstery shampoo do you recommend? Hopefully, its something I can buy from a local store.

I have a small head drapery and uphostery attachment for my shampooer. Try alcohol and paer towels to reduce stain intensity.

I plan on recovering my seats with leather sometime soon, as my seats are about the same (just seat bottoms).....

I got a quote for 363 to do both seat bottoms...... In real leather, not vinyl.....

Take in mind that vinyl doesnt breath, so you will have severe fuse-age of the legs to the seat during the summer months!!!!!

In an earlier post, someone had a driver's seat done in vinyl for $120. It looked golden. I plan on having my driver's seat done in leather, and the passenger seat done in vinyl. Screw the passenger!

I still wouldnt recommend vinyl.... or at least dont let anyone know about it!!!!!

Vinyl isnt bad though.... They use it on boat seats, and its VERY durable.... Requires little or no maintenance..... And boat seats get put to much more stress than do car seats.....

Thats not a bad idea, though...... I might need to think about that...... Who cares if the other guy has the scorched buns, im not gonna EVER be in the passenger seat anyway!!!!!

I take to the passenger seat, occasionally, when I am too tired to drive, and the wife, or business patner takes the wheel. It is a different feeling.

Trust me, you get a cutie asking to drive, and you will be in the passenger seat faster than you think. (Not htat my business partner is a cutie, or anything...but my wife sure is!:D )

The small ammount of leather required for the seat bottom, shouldn't break the bank, anyway.

Also, they offer custom embriordery, I'd love to have the Infiniti name and logo in the seat like the new G's
