Leather or Cloth

I am still dwelling on which coupe to get (I'm an engineer and tend to analyze things to death). Finally decided to go with the 2.5 as I drive ~5000km/month and gas prices are steadily rising. My next decision is whether or not to get the premium package or get the base 2.5. I have two dogs and would fold the rear seats down and cover them. The dogs (lab and golden) will stay in the back seats but there is still hair floating in the air at times. I would think the leather would be much easier to clean, especially when wearing dress cloths.

What is everyone's opinion on leather seats or cloth seats? I have always had cloth and assume the leather would be very hot in the summer.

If you can afford it, leather. No question in my mind.

I hope you've got a sedan because I doubt a lab and a retriever would fit in the back of a coupe very comfortably. I've got a West Highland Terrier and although she's only about 13-14" tall, she occupies a ridiculous amount of space in the back of my coupe. Also, getting a pair of large dogs in and out of the coupe isn't a task I'd look forward to doing...

So, while cleaning up dog hair with a leather interior would be sooooo much easier than with cloth (trust me...I know how dog hair and cloth attract each other like crazy-glued velcro), are you willing to take the risk of a pair of huge hounds scuffing the back of the front seats?

I am also an engineer...and I can't believe you wouldn't get the 3.5.....well anyway, with dogs and that this is your daily beater cloth is the best option...

leather would be easier for shedding but you are right leather gets VERY hot....

For what this car's main purpose is I would get ZERO options...

How hot can it possibly get in Newby Brunswick?

I live in a desert climate where it gets over 100 F regularly in the summer.I have leather seats. They aren't really hotter in the summer your backjust tends to sweat a bit more...but honestly it's never been a problem for me. Maybe initially getting in to the car they have a bit more heat, butcrank the AC and you'll be fine. I'll never do cloth again. I love the leather.

Sorry but I have to say BS, I have had many cars leather and cloth our hot days are about 95 with massive humidity....LEATHER GETS HOT HOT HOT WAY HOTTER THAN CLOTH (park in the shade if possible)...and yeah you will get swamp a$$ and a sweaty back...but I still get leather anyway...

Well we don't get much humidity here and that would make a big difference. We stay around 15 - 30% humidity in the summer.

If you are in a climate with 70%+ humidity, yeah I bet you would be a lot hotter. For me...no big deal at all.

Ive got a black lab/ queensland heeler mix, but the problem is he's 14 years old. The a/c is low enough for him to get into no problem, but for him to hop into the back is kinda awkward for him with his bad hip and knee. I think that the cloth is pretty tough, and if the dog is enough to influence your choice you should get the cloth to avoid tears from the nails and such, but I personally would prefer leather any day, I just live in arizona, and having leather here is suicide.

Where I live it gets as warm as 35 C (95F) with very high humidity, making it feel well over 100F. Not to mention our winters drop to -40 C (-40F) at times.

I have been thinking of the 3.5 but the 2.5 gets 5mpg (imperial) more than the 3.5, which can make a difference for me since I put 60,000 km per year on my vehicle. My current vehicle (Xtrail) is great on fuel (30 mpg, 25 mpg US) for an SUV, but something a little better is needed since fuel is $1.33/L ($5.03/USgal).

My lab is actually quite small, about half the size of the golden. I don't expect any issues if I do go through with trading my Xtrail in for an A/C.

I did try out a 2.5 and 3.5 yesterday, both with the premium package. Didn't care for the CVT in the 2.5, was loud compared to the standard transmission 2.5 I tried a few nights before. The 3.5 CVT was nice....correction, the 3.5 was nice.

This will be my only vehicle, and I am thinking of the 2.5 with no options. Installing a Pioneer D3 system, HID lights...etc. Even thinking getting leather seats after market as the leather in the premium package doesn't seem to be great. Any comments from those of you who has the premium leather package?

the back seats for flat for much more room for your dogs. I'd get the leather and just have my back seats flat for them.

That is what I was planning. You said on another post of mine, your A/C did fine last winter. Did you drive a lot in the storms?
