Buy it. Next question.

Man, figures Adam hasn't been around in months and he pops in while i'm out of town :frown:

Good to see you're doing well man. Zack(RicerX, formerly XenonSE-R) just bought a new Rogue for his lady and seems to like it. I wouldn't touch a CVT for anything though and I disagree that everyone is going to CVT's. Actually a lot of the automakers that has switched to them, aside from Nissan have been dumping them for the 7, 8, and 9 speed ZF transmissions which are solid transmissions so far.

As far as a recommendation from me goes, because we just went through this last year: Toyota RAV4 or Kia Sorento. We ended up buying the Sorento and love ours. We've already logged 13,000 miles on ours and have had zero issues with it at all. Plus the warranty is outstanding, it gets good gas mileage for a mid-size SUV, and is priced comparably to the smaller SUV's like the Rogue, CX-5, and RAV4 but gives you a lot more room. We average about 22mpg in the city and get between 28-30mpg on the highway with the 4cyl. I did kick in some extra cash to extend the bumper-to-bumper warranty when we bought ours though, so not only is the powertrain covered to 100k, but now the whole car is.

Yo! I will chime in on the 14 Rogue since we have logged about 5000 on the clock since purchasing in December.

Meagan LOVES the car. Absolutely loves it. I've had a decent bit of seat time in it commuting back to see family since we moved, and I have to say, it takes a lot of the fuss out of driving on the interstate. Visibility is excellent, the seats are VERY comfortable (we have an SV FWD, so no leather - she wasn't wild about leather and I wasn't going to spend another $4k on something she was indifferent toward), and the fuel economy is absolutely stellar for what it is. We are logging between 31 and 33.8 MPG on the interstate at roughly 75 mph. That's loaded with luggage and the two beast dogs in the back seat. I know it's a CVT, but it's really not terribly bad. It has a decent amount of getup and go when you need it, though I have to adjust coming from my Z to driving that as far as some of my more offensively-oriented driving maneuvers.

On the snow/ice, it's quite capable even being FWD. I found it to be very predictable and manageable, provided I turned off VDC - it's useless on ice. When driving on ice/snow, I'd rather manage slippage with throttle and not have it restricted by nannies.

Much like you, Adam, we initially cross-shopped the CX-5. I found it to be a bit more engaging of a drive (it's definitely sportier), but the cargo space in the Rogue is greater (the divide and hide is particularly awesome for keeping cases of beer from sliding around in the back) and the tech for the money seemed to be a touch better than the CX-5, which is what Meagan was more concerned about (besides fuel economy on the highway - the Rogue edges the CX-5 on the interstate and around town due to the CVT). Rear seat headroom seemed to be better with the Rogue, but the CX5 we test drove had a sunroof where the Rogue we have does not, so that probably comes out in the wash.

I don't feel you can lose with either vehicle whatsoever - they're both well done vehicles. As far as crossovers go, the idea is you're supposed to have the utility of an SUV with the economy of a midsize sedan, and I think the Rogue nails that on the head. The CX-5 does this, but incorporates the "zoom-zoom" philosophy and does it well also.

Currently sampling a couple songs off of Lacuna Coil's upcoming album.

Also currently missing drumming. A lot.

Morning fellas, long time no see!

Been a brutal 4 weeks while traveling for work. I've been to Boston, Portsmouth, Cleveland, Columbia (yay BBQ hash!), Kansas City, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Boston again. Flippin' exhausted.

Some cool stuff has happened though-
- got stuck in an elevator in a Sheraton. No hot blonde, so not as cool as it sounds.
- bought some sweet books on WW2 at a weird hippy bookstore in Portsmouth. 1. Chemical arms race. 2. WW2 and medicine. 3. A book on first hand accounts of being on submarines from both the Japanese and American perspectives during WW2.
- had some amazing cheese.
- a few amazing meals.
- officially hate most airlines aside from Southwest & Jet Blue. f*** you, United Air.
- Upgraded status at Marriott & Hilton properties.
- Hardcore upgraded status for rental cars at National/Enterprise.
- Drove a Juke, hated it.
- Was 4th chair at the mountain and skied in 26" of powder on the slopes and in the woods with a lesbian and some other dude. Hucked myself off three 15' cliffs into soft, powdery snow!
- Finally came home yesterday to a dog that won't listen to me and a lady that feels hardcore neglected.
- Came home to a pleasant surprise; my Class A License to Carry Large Capacity!!! Another thread on that later.

Nice to see ya Ada, and to hear that things are still going well with the lady. Will we see you at Carlisle? Man, I can't wait for that trip!

I think American Airlines is the worst airline known to man. Long story short, I had a flight cancelled with American one time due to fog, yet Southwest was able to land and take off while it was snowing (1-3in snow on the runway). Last time I checked, the southwest US was not known for their snow-preparedness. Every time I've flown Southwest I've gotten there and back on time. Last time I flew American I was stuck in Chicago for almost 12 hours.

The CX-5 is definitely out. It will be primarily her car and the seats don't work for her. Not even an option anymore.

While I could probably handle the snow/ice in a FWD vehicle, I'd prefer her to have AWD. By me they really only plow once the snow has completely stopped. It is not uncommon to have ~8" of snow on the road. That gets a bit tricky with FWD. There are a few four way stops that are at the top of a hill, so getting going from a stop can be difficult (I usually take the truck when snow is bad, and those stops are when flipping into 4HI is helpful - that and when I need to drive into the ditch to avoid some dbag driving down the middle of the snow-covered road in their little car).

Right now working on negotiating an acceptable price, but should have a '14 Rogue AWD SL w/ premium in the near future.

Living near midway makes Southwest my preferred airline. Rarely have issues with them. Only stranded once, and that was due to the wonderful winter we've experienced in Chicago this year.

Data/VOIP infrastructure and support. I'd call it "office cabling" to be easier to understand, but it's so much more than that... As long as I'm not stuck behind a desk, I'm ok with that.

I was thinking: You can see through falling snow, but fog is a different story? I've had a few flights cancelled and delayed with Southwest because of fog too...

I still think it's just American sucking the big one, because the very next day United airlines flew in FOGGIER conditions no problem. It was the exact same flight departure and destination (Chicago to Ft. Wayne).

My dad has a good friend who's a commercial pilot and they have so much sophisticated stuff to see through weather, hard for me to give the benefit of the doubt here.

As former military flt crew, I can say that we can come up with all sorts of excuses on demand in order to either delay or cancel a flight/mission. I've spent days "stranded" in places that had a high per diem, or some place where a crew member had family.

Here's the deal with weather. There are regulations in place that prohibit takeoff when conditions don't meet minimum requirements for safety and yada yada. So if other airlines and or flights are taking off, then your airline is lying to you. It's probably a maintenance issue or something along those lines, they just can't say that. For obvious reasons.

I appreciate the thought, but it doesn't look like VPP buys you much unless you are an NNA employee/immediate family. Everyone else gets like maybe $150 under invoice, so pretty much invoice price.

When I bought my Altima I qualified for VPP based on my place of employment. At that time, I think it was something close to 3% under invoice which did have an impact.

Yeah I personally wasn't too impressed with the VPP either when we looked at Nissan's. Yet another reason I didn't buy one.

I could use a nap too. I've been burning the midnight oil trying to finish remodeling our master bathroom. 5-6 hours of sleep per night sounds like enough, until you do it for a couple of weeks straight - then it gets old.

yo yo!

so I had an allergic reaction to something yesterday. I was in a meeting and started itching all over the place. got home and changed clothes and realized my body was breaking out into hives. SUPER fun.

took some Benadryl, passed out at 730, woke up at 6, and i'm not totally recovered. whatever it is still runs through my system. I might not make it the whole day at work.

that said - the morning drive in the Z was somewhat chilly but really awesome with all the patches of fog. I like foggy mornings as long as it's not the totally solid fog you can't see past three feet with.

Weird, I had an allergic reaction just like that last year and it was from my body wash. Dove mens body wash of all things. It was the weirdest thing ever.

I thought out getting the Miata out this morning, but I remembered it needed gas so I left it home. Kinda glad I did, because it was a lot colder out than I expected it to be.

You guys and your fancy sports car driving in March!

Actually, I got the T/A out and bundled up for some topless driving while the miata awaits its modified manifold in the garage.

Wanted to take it out today, but it rained this morning and there is likely still some salt on the road that the moisture would have stirred up. I left it in the garage and beat my frustrations on the Subaru instead.
