I'm waiting to assemble more pieces before I tear down the car. Plus, I need to get a tig torch for my welder. That and lack of money. That's always a good contributor to not getting any work done :/ Hopefully, one of the dozens of job apps I've put in will pan out and some added income will help propel the car projects along.

Looks like today will be the warmest day all week for me. I really need to get a remote starter for my car...
Wasn't too bad. I was out at the Toyota plant all day.

Today wasn't bad at all. I didn't even wear my coat when I left work.

Yeah i'd like for things with the Miata to be moving along faster, but we're trying to save money right now until Kristen gets done with her masters degree. Thankfully it doesn't NEED much - it really just needs a top and then a timing belt installed. After that, everything is just a want for now. It even has nearly new tires on it, which is pretty rare for me. Usually I have to put tires on everything I get :tisk:

That's where I am with the S13. It doesn't need anything per se, except new seats. The S14 seats I have are deteriorating fast. I want to go to Recaro Speeds. That's next on the master plan of what to buy, but after that, it all becomes wants. I want GKTech control arms. I want SPL adjustable links. I want to powder coat the S14 rear subframe. etc etc. We're getting a healthy tax return this year thanks to having to relocate and buy a second house. So we're hoping to pay off in full one of our huge loans to get a considerable chunk of outgoing cash flow back. It'll be nearly $500/mo that we can not worry about eating into our incomes.

With the way junior engineering jobs are going, it definitely seems to be a who you know proposition in this area. Hopefully, I know the right people, but we'll see. One of Deidra's old contracting liaisons from Norfolk knows some people at Quantico, so I have my fingers crossed that he can land me something since the traditional channels have yielded nothing.

Speaking of seats...

I'm probably unlike most of you, I like comfortable. If I could stuff some of the older pillow top seats that Buick used to use in their Lesaber/Park Ave, I'd be all over it!

I'm tired of leather. My S14 and 540i have friggin leather. At least the 540 is heated, so they don't suck too bad in the winter, but the summer...forget it. Give me cloth any day over leather.

PS, congrats on unloading some debt!

I hate how leather wears and ends up being awful after a while. I wonder if it began as a byproduct that some company picked up and eventually became a standard in luxury cars? Or did it stem from leather bound chairs of the past?

In other news, we have some real snow coming our way tonight/tomorrow- 8-10". Too bad none of it will make it to the mountains. Again. Dammit.

We've got about 2" of snow on the ground here so far this morning much to my surprise.

I like leather, but unfortunately hate how it wears too. Nissan leather is by far the worst I've dealt with though, closely followed by Ford. The leather in the 500 has held up ok so far though.

The key to keeping leather looking good though and from breaking down is to keep it conditioned and properly cared for. Most people just slap some armorall on it and call it good. I use a nice leather conditioner cream after using a good leather cleaner on it. Conditioner helps the leather stay soft so it doesn't break down and crack.

As for debt - thankfully we don't have too awfully much. We have one credit card that we've been mainly working on and then we'll be focusing on paying off her student loans. Outside of that, we just have our mortgage and one car payment.

Funny, that's exactly where we stand. Currently just renting, but we're buying soon enough.

We have a bit too much. I took an officer career starter loan when I went in to the air force to consolidate a bunch of credit card debt and pay for uniforms. That's the big offender on our debt list. I have about $10k left on it, but it's still cheaper than paying the individual card companies since it's locked in at 4.9% apr

The Pathfinder and WRX are pretty big contenders for outgoing, but not much I can do about it right now. And then there's the two mortgage payments, but at least one is covered by the renters we rent to.

I use 3M when I can find it. It smells really good and is top notch. Lately I've been using Meguirs Gold Glass though and I like it a lot.

I don't understand the idiots who handle college closures. Are they the same waste of oxygen morons who handle the government closures as well? Yesterday, my school announced they'd be closed due to the weather THE NIGHT BEFORE ANYTHING FELL FROM THE SKY. So they chicken littled and closed s*** down. Not a single flake fell from the sky until lunch time. It still took hours to even start accumulating on the roads. At least the government waited until 4 AM to shut down.

But the reason for my rant. The roads have been covered in ACTUAL snow and ice since late yesterday afternoon. Not mythical promised snow that closes things down unnecessarily. The government is open today, I guess because it's difficult to drive to work and the trains don't operate under the threat of possible snow, but everything will run at full speed ahead captain when the roads and rails are icy? My school is opening at noon today, because I guess the actual snow and ice can't hold a candle to the possibility of snow and ice?

I seriously just want to find the moron in charge of these decisions and tell them to man up when NOAA says "Hey, a storm is coming your way, but it hasn't hit yet." is not the time to tell everyone to hide their kids and hide their wives, you go to work. You go to school. The time to tell people not to risk it is when the roads are so bad, VDOT can't clear them fast enough. Kind of like now. I know it's hard to get the helmet to sit on that oblong head of yours, whoever you are that chooses when s*** closes, but sometimes you just gotta hike your double knit pants and realize the polar vortex is not an actual polar bear trying to eat the kids and just tell everyone it's ok to go to school. Maybe look out your window next time before you close the world down and realize that when the roads and ground look ok, vehicles can drive on them, but also remember that when you can't see the roads because of all the f*** SNOW AND ICE, you might want to tell people to sleep in and drink some hot chocolate instead.

Amen brotha!

The folks here who b**** about how they're going to be sooooo late to work and might not even show up is insane.
Using my inner George Carlin voice-
You know what I say? f*** 'em. Are they so rich that they can't be bothered to come to work and earn money for their families? Or so lazy that they can't get off their fat, obese asses from watching Modern Family to go shovel a couple of times before bed with the kids? But oh God, they managed to get to the store for milk and bread- in the same car they could take to work- just in case they starve to death in their homes with at least marginally stocked pantries with non-perishable food. News flash, mommy forgot the f*** eggs, so no French Toast for you. These are the same people that bring an air conditioner camping with them. Shame on these sad, pathetic, desensitized Americans. I'd love to see these bastards man a wood stove all night for marginal heat because the power actually did go out- and then have to cook on it in the morning because the stove is out of commission. I hope they all starve to death before realizing that the food in the fridge can be put outside in the snow.

Anytime it snows around here, people act like it's the apocalypse. It was great going down the courthouse today - I didn't have to wait in line at all and all of downtown is like a ghost town.

I took off today again, but not due to snow. It's the kids birthday and I also have had the stomach flu for a couple of days now, so I don't think I could've been much use with 2hrs sleep AND still puking.

In other news, I ordered a new steering wheel for the Miata last night: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HOL ... UTF8&psc=1

Now I just need to order the rest of the crap for the timing belt and a new top. The rest of the stuff is want stuff, so i'll probably wait until after tax season to get those.

Well, I hear you guys btiching about those who can't make it in to work, and I say maybe the ones who stay home don't know HOW to drive in this stuff. Better they stay away and leave the driving to those who can safely and not make the DOT deal with a harrowing accident.

In Virginia, everyone goes to work anyway, and I saw all kinds of fu*ked up driving today because of that... Hell, I got cut off by a semi on Waxpool Rd this evening trying to pass me on ice, then I saw them them clip an SUV.

That depends. I missed a day or two of work in my life due to snow or ice, but in my old hometown, ice was notorious for hiding under a small layer of snow. In Hampton Roads, they get snow so infrequently, there are only a few snow plows, so it's easy for them to get snowed in. Here in Fredericksburg, most people work up in DC, so if the government is open, everyone goes to work. If the government closes, they stay home.

i left work early on tuesday, not due to fear of the snow that was coming down, but because i would prefer not to be on the same roads with the s*** drivers, at the same time, while it's snowing hard. i just came in early yesterday to make up the lost time from tuesday, with the added bonus that everyone else in the state was calling in late, so i had the highway to myself.

Yep, I was out picking up a truck for a friend during the snowpacolypse they predicted here. We ended up with almost a foot of powder. (yawn). I was surprised how empty the roads were. It's not the people that rush out to buy shovels every time it snows that bother me (though you gotta wonder WTF they do with them after the last snowfall). It's the non-stop news coverage that interrupts all the regular programming. But then I have to admit, the local Philly TV stations have hired more hot weather babes ..er meteorologists to lessen the anger. Sheena Parveen on the NBC affiliate, for example, is very easy on the eyes. :naughty:

It's funny that if the news anchor is hot, the interruption is so much more tolerable. Heck, I might not even complain at all.

Here would be a more acceptable statement:

Or:

Although I wouldn't go see Metallica unless it was via time travel. They suck now and have sucked since oh...93? I saw them live when they still drank enough alcohol to kill an entire herd of cows. THAT was good Metallica...

lmao, you guys are too much. I'm the one who wanted to go

Its rumored that there is a cooler on stage with plenty of beer in it and a jar of moonshine during his shows.

We have a radio station that plays Mandatory Metallica at 8pm every night. Its pretty fantastic. That, and the House of Hair on Saturdays.
