It's going to be 113* tomorrow, 118* on Friday and 117* on Sunday. As much as I love the heat, I am not looking forward to this weekend. :couch:

At least it's a dry heat. We were triple digits on the ocean front today. I was stuck in traffic for near an hour with no A/C in the 'vert.

I've had no AC for the last 10 years in my cars and don't suffer too much from it in summer. In a black car, no less.

Not that I don't wish I had it.

I'm fine without AC. My Maxima, DeVille, and Q had it, but I rarely used it in any of those cars (especially because the Q's automatic climate control is COMPLETE CRAP and competes with itself).
My Ranger didn't and I never missed it. My LS has it but it doesn't work, and I don't care enough to fix it. The LS has cooled seats and a sunroof. Far nicer than air conditioning.

The only time I ever really feel the need for AC is when I have passengers.

The only times I used the AC in my car are whenever I'm waiting in a parking lot, and can't find shade. Or if I have non-family female passengers.

I can't drive my car for long periods of time without the a/c. Granted i've had to do it before, but I usually end up leaving my car sweaty.
The sun literally shines down on you in the bahamas. The only three reasons you wouldn't have your a/c on here are;
1. It's not working,
2. ??????
3 You don't have enough fuel.

Meh, I use my a/c to control the climate of my vehicle to my preferences. I like it cold, Not a sauna.
Also I've NEVER used my heater.

I think it really does depend on where you are located globally to determine the amount of climate control you have in a vehicle.
Granted it's not a necessity, but it's one of those things that it's so much better with, rather than without.

I've also NEVER EVER had need for the heater, because of the joke that is the Floridian winter.

As Jesda observed in a post a long time ago, I might be a demon. 74 Fahrenheit is my MINIMUM comfortable temperature. 110 is genuinely nice to me. I'll happily do yard/car work in long pants in 100+. It's got to be ROASTY to use AC. Even in my house. Only time I use AC is when I'm trying to sleep and it's 85+ inside. Out of the house, I wear a jacket unless it's going to STAY above 74 the whole day.

I don't need the car heater either if I eat Mexican food the night before. Of course, my passengers might prefer if I used the car heater instead.

Maybe the weather is just different in Kansas, but I don't know ANYBODY that can be remotely comfortable in the high 90's and above here. If you guys think you can hack it here with no A/C, you can come hang with me doing pool work all day and see how you fair, LOL

Morning fellas. A car with a/c is a pretty nice thing. Only the Subaru has it and for the rainy, sticky, hot days in the summer, I've been LOVING the option of taking it to/from work.

Can someone answer me this- is there a DIY cooled seats install like the DIY heated seats kit? I'd LOVE that.

Hmmm, I guess there are two styles.
This mat thing:

and this one that would require some cutting of your foam and some trial and error DIY.

Does anyone know if the a/c actually cools your seats or if they use fans?

A few are A/C cooled, but most use Peltier thermoelectric pumps and fans. The cool thing about Peltier pumps is that they are reversible, so you get heating and cooling in one package. BUT the fan and pump combo is not as compact as electric heating elements, so they're often mounted remotely and make use of ducting to direct air to the seats. Also, the fan makes noise. The LS's seat fans are pretty quiet, but I notice them. A faint whirring that my brain will randomly notice and interpret as "bad noises" from the footwell...and I go into "oh, what's wrong now" mode until I remember it's just the seat fan.

I wonder if it'd be easier to install seats that already had that (like from another car), rather than retrofitting some sort of cooling sorcery on seats that didn't originally have it?

Probably. Assuming none of the control components are housed in the climate control stuff instead. I'm sure you could rig up some voltage provider, but I'm curious as to whether the 3-stage power switch on my car, for instance, just provides varied voltage to the fan, or whether it actually controls/regulates the peltier pump or other more complex stuff. The power controls are a part of the climate control unit on the dash.

Also, the support material on seats that use cooling/heating fans is different. It's a sort of spun plastic mesh that allows a lot of air to pass while still being supportive. Normal foam wouldn't work. You can sort of see it in this picture of my shredded driver seat:
Image
You can also sort of see the flexible duct that directs air to the seatback in that picture, in the gap between the seat bottom and back.
