Not anymore!

And MoD, that's what I thought about the stupid thing. The situation is leading me to quit the job, because I foresee bad things ahead if I stay. I'm not one to just let stupid be, and when you combine stupid with dangerous, people get hurt. And this pair seems like they would cause trouble if they wanted.

Hey Brian- can you go back a page and check out the dog training approach and maybe lend a suggestion or experience?

So the problem is that she's wonders off if the area is large? Have you given her a thorough walk of the surrounding area? Dogs like to explore and her natural instinct is going to cause her to do so.

What exactly would you like the result to be? That you let her outside and she just stays right by your side?

My Dobermans loved to run and explore. I took them places where there weren't any people so they could get their romp on without scarring the crap out of people. But they would come when called and stay when told. Does your dog not do this?

She won't come back once in the large area and generally ignores any command once she's out of my running range.
If she starts to listen, its like "SIKE!" and takes off again.
When we're working in the yard, we do walk allll over the yard, along the edges, in the middle, etc.
The goal we have is to have her off leash outside, but to come back when called and to stop when we say stop. Its fun to chase her around the yard, especially when it snows (husky/great peraneise (SP) mix). I'd like to have her outside while I'm working on the car or gardening, but having my eyes on her every few minutes is incredibly aggravating.

Ahh, Huskies are smaht but wicked stubborn. When you're in a smaller area, or anywhere for that matter, does she reliably come and stay? When told to stay, will she continue to stay when you walk away?

I trained my Dobes to come and stay first before anything else. Those are the two most essential commands that must be taught. Dobes want to impress their owners though. They learn tasks quickly and they don't seem to have the stubbornness that some breeds do.

I trained my dogs to sit and stay while I poured their food into their respective bowls. They weren't allowed to eat until I told them "go ahead".

Thanks for the reminder! She isn't allowed to eat until we say to, too. And only eats when we eat. That one was actually pretty easy since the leaders of the pack are the ones who can eat whenever they want, and since her food was out all of the time, she was considering herself the leader. We fixed that one easily and she fell in line.

In a smaller area shes 99% golden with coming and staying and doing whatever else I tell her to. 95% with distractions (the lady has a huge family so we get to practice a lot). We did a 5k last weekend with dogs and people and after about 10-13 minutes of all the people and pets, she was very obedient. She learns very quickly and even the stubbornness is happening less and less with new tasks as she trusts us more and more to make the decisions for her. Progress has been excellent and pretty quick, 6 months ago she was all Alpha and "honeybadger don't care."

I'm just thinking that we need a training measure to get her to understand that the rules matter in bigger spaces, too. I had a dream last night that it was perfect, but then I woke up saddened because it hasn't happened yet.

A well behaved doggy makes me a MUCH happier co-owner.

Good weekend for me. Got a lot done around the house, played outside with the kid, and tinkered around with the new mower.

What about you Ray?

I saw the stripes you cut in the yard on FV. You'll have to start practicing for your flag for July 4th.

I had a busy car-filled Saturday. Started with the Miata. Turns out I have the wrong tensioner block/nut for my alternator (stupid dealer doesn't carry the original anymore- weird). So I engineered a fix with a longer bolt, locking washer, a nut, and a lock nut. Should hold, but time will well. That took some time. Then I changed the differential fluid. HUGE difference. It was always quiet, but it feels smoother and the limited slip feels more 'grabby,' which I'm all for. Then I fixed a fan sensor that a wire worked its way loose.

I then did cap & rotor on the T/A and re-timed it with the valve cover off. Its perfect. Went to to get gas, forgot the gas cap key GRUMBLEGRUMBLEDAMMITGUMBLEGRUMBLE, but also discovered that the engine misfired kinda bad so I drove home, let it cool off and rushed to The Zone for spark plugs. Changed them in record time (those SBC's with stock exhaust manifolds are a biatch if you're not familiar with the in's and out's) and got a drive to the gas station just as night was falling. Filled with premium, brought the timing gun with me and got about 8 degrees advanced out of it. Runs great, gas mileage is on par or better.

Drove a little on Sunday, got a sweet pair of Rockports from the thrift store that had seriously NEVER been worn before for $14. SCORE. Also got a garmet bat style suitcase for $8. Went sailing with the lady's 'rents. Missed a winch and got yelled at to PULL PULL PULL! to stop the sail from flapping wildly. We hit 9.5 knots on an awesome heel.

Pretty good relaxing weekend, and now back to stress filled work. Had to remind myself that car work is supposed to be fun a few times, but overall, was nice to be outside and doing my thing.

I always cut stripes in our yard, especially where we currently live because of the layout of the lot.

I haven't done any car maintenance in a while, excluding a quick oil change in the Jeep last Friday. The 500 needs to visit the shop soon though, because the A/C isn't blowing as cool as i'd like on really hot days.

Sounds like you had a pretty productive weekend man. I kept myself busy, but the kid still occupied most of my time. She's pretty easy to deal with, but you still have to keep an eye on her because she gets into stuff in a hurry.

I changed out my sway bar end links this weekend, no more clunk noise yay! Just need to do a complete fluid change and my VC gaskets could use replacing as well and I should be up to par with required maintenance.

Clunking is the worst! The only thing worse than clunking is your exhaust tail pipes rusting off RIGHT AT THE f*** MUFFLER and dragging down the road held on by your hanger on the way to your woman's parents house.

On the plus side is the T/A sounds like a freggin' boat now.

I was doing pretty good until i came to work and saw this 03 Suburban that i am replacing the evaporator core in,it has turned out to be a b****.

The wife has been doing pretty good the last 3 or 4 days, she had to get a couple units of blood last week because her red blood cell count was low.It seems to have helped out a bit. :)

How's it going with you?
