Mornin' B.

New tablet officially on order. The wife decided she wants my Kindle Fire HD, so I ordered an Asus Transformer Quad Core last night off of Woot.com. Now I can finally use Torque and all of my other crap I have on something with a bigger screen than my phone. I haz a happy :gapteeth:

Mornin' Ben!

Brian, I actually got nearly the same one: http://www.asus.com/Tablets_Mobile/ASUS ... ad_TF300T/

I got it without the keyboard dock though because I already have a nice bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It was $70 cheaper without the dock, so I figured it wasn't worth it since I won't use it most of the time.

I would love one of those for my car. I'd have to seriously customize the 540 console to go the tablet route...I just don't have the motivation. I have thought about mounting one to a swivel/hinge so that I could "open" that area when I need to adjust certain controls. Something like a cabinet door with mag locks etc.

Just get one of those tablet vent mounts or something for now. I have thought about going the custom tablet install route too, but I mainly just wanted something larger to use in the car so I can made better use of Torque and the other apps I use. I picked this one up for $239 refurbished, so I couldn't have gotten a Nexus 7 much cheaper.

I've been very few interesting places, but I loved going to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN last year. Outside of that, probably the most enjoyable was going to Wilmington, NC to Carolina Beach and camping on the beach for a couple of days. I've been wanting to make a cross country trip to AZ at some point, but that doesn't look like it's happening this year.

Well I use my phone for GPS, Pandora, Torque and reading while in the car. Having a tablet would make all of those things easier/better.

I already have a nice GPS, but I use Spotify, Torque, Amazon MP3, and ect quite often. Plus i'm a geek - I like tinkering with these things anyways.

Three places I must go before i'm too old to enjoy them - Ireland, Italy, and the U.K.

Here's a good one - What 5 cars must you drive at least once before dying?

^Agreed, but lets be realistic with them, because for example: I'd love to drive an Aston Martin DB5 through the Isle of Mann, but the likelihood of that happening is quite slim.

The 5 cars I must drive (if we're being realistically possible):
The last air cooled Porsche. (may even have to own one) East coast road trip
Image

A Nascar. On the infield road course
Image

1959 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible (sucker for the double light tail fins). Probably have to drive it in California.
Image
Image

Ecto-1. Downtown NYC. Without a ton of traffic. Call it living out a childhood dream. Its also one of the few cars I'd buy to store it and drive it once in a while to get a ton of looks around town. I've always wanted to build my own, but lack the knowledge to build a proper proton pack to accompany it.
Image

Hummer- the original, and only on a proper trail)

Alright here's mine:

1959 Chevrolet Impala on the entire Route 66:

Image

Porsche 911 Turbo on an East Coast Road Trip(I have driven the exact car, but I want to spend more than 20min in one):

Image

Tackle Moab in a Jeep Wrangler, but only prepped and built by myself:

Image

Drive a 1969 Dodge Charger through every backroad possible from here to Macon, GA. *Must be in full Dukes of Hazard General Lee attire:

Image

Drive an orignal Boss 302 Mustang on a Trans-Am circuit:

Image

I would've said a NASCAR, but it's not something I get too excited about. I've driven on Atlanta Motor Speedway numerous times, so it's nothing that I really have to do. I wouldn't turn down getting behind the wheel once though.

Awesome choices- very surprised at how similar our thoughts are. Nascar was added for the thought of high speed action.

The early Boss is such a sexy lookin' animal. My body guy has one just hanging out in his lot, I love its lines. Thinking about it got me to ponder the early 70's Javelin. I LOVE that car and there is one that keeps snaping my neck while running past a house on one of my typical routes.

The 59 Impala and 59 Eldo are enough for me. Actually, I'd be happy to drive either of those up and down the PCH or RT 66 just once.

I don't even have much of a desire to drive any of the new machines.

I thought about the high speed action, but I don't know that it would be an enjoyable experience on the first try for me. I get a little nervous above 120mph, so I might get too freaked out to enjoy it at first.

I've driven and owned a lot of stuff over the years, but my favorite hobby has always been off-roading. There's just something awesome about tackling a trail and conquering it. It's not about speed, it's more like a problem you have to figure out how to overcome as you go and it constantly changes as you go through the trail. Plus it can be easier or more difficult depending on the weather conditions.

I LOVE Javelins. You don't see them very often around here, but they are awesome. There's actually a General Lee that runs around where I live a lot. I see it at least once a week on the road.

It's funny, if I ever had a ton of money, i'd probably only buy maybe 1 or 2 high end cars. Everything else would be fairly inexpensive, fun cars.

I miss my old K5 Blazer. That was such a fun truck to hit the trails with. I loved popping the top off and just cruising the streets as well.

I've only been trail riding about a dozen times, but it is A LOT of fun. However, VERY expensive when parts break, especially since they seem to break so frequently. I'm with ya on solving the puzzle, picking your way through a wet rock field with the equipment and set up that your vehicle has is a unique challenge. You guys are making me miss my old dirtbike...

Brian - K5's were awesome too. That's what I loved about my Jeep, except it had a ton of options for the top since I had one of the nicer soft top kits. I usually ran half doors with the bikini top in the summer and on the trails i'd run half doors and the "safari" top, which covered the whole thing, but all windows were out.

Ray - Yes, it can get expensive quick. Last time I went to NC in my old CJ7, I blew the rear main seal, spun an axle sub, knocked off the exhaust, and put a big dent in it. The fun factor was worth it though, but it sucked once I got it back home and had to fix everything. If you're careful and experienced, you can usually keep cost fairly low. I was running a 24 year old Jeep through some tough trails and it was fairly stock, so it was inevitable that it would happen eventually. If I ever get back into it again, i'll buy either a newer Wrangler, Tacoma, or a 98+ Ford Ranger.

LOL Yes, you just have to be able to accept that those things will happen, no matter what- especially if its all at once!
I broke a differential in the Miata while racing it a year ago. s*** happens, so long as you're prepared to deal with it and get it through your head that those things will occur.

I hope that CJ wasn't your only method of transportation at the time.

I'm a lot more prepared for sudden breakage/failures now than I was back then, but even back then I could get it taken care of in a reasonable amount of time.

Oh it definitely wasn't. I had my 89 Ranger Ext Cab, which was my daily and then my 91 Mustang GT. Plus I had my mom's Jeep Grand Cherokee too if those weren't available.

Before I met Kristen, I always had at least one extra vehicle, but usually had two. When we met, I had my old '04 Ranger(which I still miss the hell out of), my 72 Camaro SS, and I had just gotten back my 91 Mustang LX 5.0.

Thailand. Thailand Thailand Thailand. Seriously. Go there with 500 bucks and you're loaded. You can seriously buy a house for that much. And it's really pretty. Pattaya Beach was where we ported.

Off-roading is no more expensive than modifying cars. It just depends on what you're doing. If you're doing hardcore stuff or going to fast you'll break stuff.

Hobbies cost $, but the reward for happiness is well worth the price.

Offroading probably made me the happiest of out of all of my car hobbies. It wasn't competitive, it was just laid back and you got to enjoy tackling the terrain in front of you in the best way possible.
