Yea, inside some caches is "schwag" (some caches are really small and just hold a log). Most of it's junk, or kids stuff. But if you find something you want, you're supposed to trade it out for something of equal or greater value. There are also things called "travel bugs". They usually look like a dog tag, but can be just about anything. On them they have a code consisting of letters and numbers. Using this code, you can find out what the owner wants this travel but to do. Usually it will have a particular desination, or set of destinations, that the owner wants it to reach. If you think you can help it get there, you pick it up, move it to another location that will help it get to it's destination, and then log the move.

Thanks for explaining all that in more detail. I'm going to try and sell the lady on it while we're in St. Thomas on vacation.

So what, it's basically a giant interactive hide and seek?

It seems to me to be a really good aid to get you out of the house a few times a month to see something new without having to research or plan it too much. It has potential to keep you out of a rut and having new experiences going places you otherwise wouldn't have known existed or bothered to previously.

Yea, it's more about the act of finding than the actual contents of the cache. As I said before, some don't even have any contents, just a log sheet. I know it may seem a little pointless or un-interesting on paper, but the first time you find one that's hard to find, it becomes much more fun. You would also be amazed at the number of caches you probably walk or drive by every day.

I always enjoyed orienteering as a boyscout, and I see geocaching as a modern high-tech equivalent.

I think what makes it great is that it appeals simultaneously to both my geek and outdoorsman sides.

Mornin' Ben.
We got that front you had a couple days ago. It brought rain, then snow, and below freezing temps. As expected, the roads are literally sheets of ice. Very glad that the Corolla (Beater of Doom Version 2) has two snow tires now. There are accidents all over the place.

Where did that front come from? I must be too far east to be getting the stuff that you guys are talking about. The weather has been pretty nice here for about a week.

Morning NICO! So what's everyone having for breakfast? I'm having a breakfast croissant (sausage patty, egg, cheese) that I cooked/reheated in my new toaster oven. This thing is awesome! I've almost completely stopped using the microwave. The food tastes sooo much better and it cooks more evenly. It is slower, but it's worth it IMHO.

If you like toaster ovens, perhaps you should try out a convection oven! If you can find one, that is... They aren't exactly easy to find now.

My toaster oven has a convection fan in it actually. It also has a rotisserie bar in it as well. The fan really speeds up cook time! Supposedly you can fit a 12" pizza in there. I'm not sure if that's true, but I'm planning on finding out soon.

Hey Gir. I'm enjoying a nice 2 days in a row off, which will soon be rare because of the new job. These guys love to make you work, not that I'm complaining. The people that are there seem nice and no one is really under danger of cracking under stress...

New job doing network infrastructure. Old job same thing without the same amount of break/fix, troubleshooting, a regular paycheck, a company truck, paid mileage, etc.

I was contracting before to cable schools and govt. buildings, now we just do businesses and the occasional residence. :) The lead guy in our department is a bit intense and a perfectionist, but he's cool enough. I just need to let it slide right off of me. Drama is only what you make of it.

Nice. Congrats. I need me a new job. Auto Nation is probably the worst company I've ever worked for. I'm gonna be going to a big university down here next semester for Forensics and Criminal Justice. Because working on cars is just too much of a pain anymore. I'll work on my own car. That's about it. How's the methwagon doing?

It's falling apart, but still on the road! The muffler fell off and it sounds off like a raped ape. I think I'm getting 90db all the time in the cabin. lol

I'm exaggerating, obviously. It's just loud enough to be obnoxious inside, tho. Outside sets off this one car alarm down the street every time I pass it. heh

You're THAT guy! I had to re-adjust the sensitivity of the alarm in the Protege because a car would drive by every night around 10pm and set the alarm off. I was gonna start parking the car in the alley it was so annoying. I was just glad there was an adjustment.

Damn you Canada! You get to import cool cars that our government is stupid about. The counter to that is that you have 2 weeks of summer every year, LOL!
