The word "Dexter" comes to mind.

I honestly don't see what wrong with loving that adrenaline rush. Being the first on scene, busting out the jaws of life, or getting on that hydrant so you can get some water on the fire. Its a great feeling. Do I wanna help people? Yes, of course I do. Is that the reason I'm in this line of work? Hell no. I want the adrenaline rush that comes with the job. I want the glory, to be the one who pulled a puppy out of a fire.
First day of the academy we went around giving the reasons we wanted to be firefighters. One of the guys said to help people. The instructor IMMEDIATELY called s***. Why? Cause 99% of the time, that is s***. Yes, we want to save people, but that is just a by-product of the real reason: the rush and glory of it all. Is that selfish and messed up? Yes. But at the end of the call, after we put out the fire and just pulled grandpa out of the house, does the reason why we do it really matter?
