we should take every opportunity to learn how to better get along with the rest of the world. We can't always assume that our way is the best way -- we have to broaden our minds and change with the times (McCain said this in his acceptance speech at the RNC, even).

I agree. I wasn't implying that we need to swing to the other extreme & snub everyone.

But the latter portion of your post raises an interesting question... do you really think another superpower could be our true friend? Given the chance, I think anyone would rape us. Human nature

But, I wan't implying that our "friend" needed to be a superpower. I'd like to see how ANY of our "friends" would react if we suddently stopped giving them stuff and doing them favors. Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Georgia, Nigeria, Venezuela...etc.

We have had & will have allies. These alliances are not guaranteed (and never were) based upon our decisions. Human nature always prevails, and if a country changes it's mind or we elect a weak leader like Obama... the hungry wolves will pounce.
