Is leaning out an engine like turning down the boost to stock boost, and using a SAFC to change the air to fuel ratio?

Leaning out is just what it's called when the engine is not getting enough fuel...purely speaking it has nothing to do with boost. BUT, if you increase the air going into the engine (turn up the boost) and dont increase the fuel accordingly, you will get a lean condition which can lead to detonation and kill your engine. You can get more power by leaning out an engine, but there is a balance to be had...you want it as lean as possible without ANY signs of detonation or an actual lean condition. It's best to tune a little on the safe side for things like questionable gas and hot days ;)

you don't want it as lean as possible. you want the correct stoichiometric ratio. the correct air to fuel ratio for some gases is 14.7:1, but that depends on the composition of the gas.

leaning it out is the act of increasing the ratio of air to fuel, and is the opposite of riching it up. or enrichening it, but i don't think anyone says that.

Generally the correct stochiometric ratio is the same thing as "lean as possible without ANY signs of detonation or an actual lean condition" to quote myself :) I probably could have explained it better, but oh well. Correct me if I'm wrong :)

I've been told to tune mine to 12 or 11.5:1 to compensate for boost spikes and such. I know stoichometric on an N/A car is 14.67:1, but what should it be on an RB20? Sorry for hijacking.
