EDIT: I was talking about mine.

I wish, I think I may have one of three problems:

1) Excessive end gap, caused by the ring not being square during measurement (I measured them and they were all in spec).

2) Cometic may or may not be leaking oil from the Galley to the combustion chamber

3) Piston ring(s) may have been installed upside down.

I am about to move, and will tear it down when I get where I am going. I boosted it though, and it felt pretty good (unless you were driving in that big blue smoke cloud behind me).

Man iv installed my Cometic gasket and im not pleased with it at all. I torqued it down once, in a three stage process the first time. Per FSM directions, i did it again. Now that i have the engine running iv noticed oil leaks from the HG all over the exhaust side of my engine. I can tell you one thing, i will never use a Cometic HG again, gona try a Felpro next time.

Sorry to threadjack

Did you use the copper spray on the gasket? Alot of cometic users have had success with the HG by spraying it down with a copper covering.

I know what you mean about the poor drivers behind you. When I first went turbo my drain line was barely hanging on pourin oil and it smoked SO bad. I still wailed on it! I thought it was a bad turbo. I looked a few days later and the drain line was almost completly off.I used felpro, good to 400+hp I would never try that with my stock internals. There is an up and down on rings???

Yes, I did use the spray, and yes, piston rings have an up and a down. The up is usually marked with a dot.

I know that the Cometic is a good product, but mine just keeps leaking. I may just go to a Felpro or custom copper and run that.

why does it keep leaking? I was afraid to use that and opted for the felpro because I have heard lotsa bad results from cometic, mostly were from head and block not being properly prepped tho.

I am searching for a starter to borrow around here because I dont wanna buy a brand new one and figure out thatt it is somthing else with my car. I am gonna pull out my batt relocation wire and check for a crack or cut in it causing it to ack out a bit heating up my wires!

Well, I have it TQ'd to 70lb/ft on my old wrench with a deep socket, so I think I may have lost TQ in a number of places there. I will set the new wrench to 85-90 and crank it down. If I don't get it, the head is ruined anyway, so I might as well try it, right?

its deff worth a shot. I have an extra head off a motor that spun bearings if you need it! I just got my starter checked at autozone and it passed. But I still think its bad, they dont do a load test. And I know it works just doesnt work as it should while turning the fliwheel.

HA! When I got out, my TQ settings were lower than 40! So my TQ wrench was broken long before it broke. I used a beam style, and set them to 80. I will start it tomorrow after I recheck the TQ.

Are you worried that it won't kick back in or out? If that happens you could have a bad solenoid. There is a linkage between the solenoid and the starter drive that kicks it out when engaged. It could just be gunked up too. You can unbolt the solenoid and check it if you like.

starter is working fine now. When I crank by hand I hear compression escaping to/from somewhere? I am going to do another compression test tomarrow.I am almost done with KAT. Serious. I am thinking about gettting a rb20!
