Hey, my gaskets had gone hard under the rocker cover causing oil to start dribbling out every now and then.. so while they were off, thought i'd bling them out.. i think it looks alright.. what you think ?

It does look pretty good. Cleaning up the engine bay would make a big difference.

what's the pink thing?

I think the valve covers look pretty sweet... you should have done the front timing cover while you were at it I think it looks even better with it all the same color!

I think the pink shield is part of his scheme to trap cold air. The valve covers look nice, but I'm with Sean in the fact that you should've done something special with the timing covers as well. Still looks tight though.

I didn't realize how bad those things can leak oil! I freaked myself out for about 20 minutes chasing an oil leak that turned out to be loose screws holding on the vlave vocer. D'oh

I like the color scheme. Nice.

You got that right mate !!

I'll have a think bout doing the timing cover too.. i'll see what bad thing si can get upto..

The pink ally box is my air-box.. it's illegal to have a pod filter here in Western Australia.. so i made this huge box with a ram underneath to hide it.. works well..

what's the torque specs for the cam cover bolts? i should be doing mine in the spring. i just want to strip the paint, polish it and clear coat the thing, maybe repaint the lettering.

there isnt any lettering on the valve cover, but there is on the coil pack cover, i think it would be wierd to sand the coil pack cover bacuase it is plastic, but you definantly could paint it.

i heard vaseline (petrolium) works good for covering lettering, ie. spray the lettering white and dont worr about the back ground, then do the vas. over the letters and spray the rest balck....

There is no torque settings.. the cam cover bolts aren't even bolts.. they are just metal thread screws..

actually there are specs, for the valve/cam covers, whatever you want to call them. I don't see any offhand for the coilpack cover / ornament however.

2-4 (0.2-0.4, 1.4-2.9) N-m (kg-m, ft-lb)

page EM-5 in the FSM.

obviously you'd want to convert to in-lb's or something more accurate and use a small accurate torque wrench

I've replaced all of the stupid philips/pozi screws with stainless M6 hex heads, put a smidge of hylomar sealer on the rubbers and cranked them down pretty hard, ~8 lbft.

That stops leaks.
