I just rebuilt my quarter windows and noticed mt lifter /cylinder is leaking from the top
can I rebuild and how do I remove ?
There is probably a thread some where but I cannot find it !
Plus i am almost sure I will have bleed the system when finished
I do have a fully working donar car but I have decided to keep it whole and sell it
as A fully working Pink Powerhouse !

on another note I am looking for A white one rather than change colour of my stock red one

So you are talking about the hydrolic ram that powers the top to go up?
I've never heard of anyone rebuilding one. I'm not saying it can't be done, i've just never heard of anyone having a leaking one and considering a rebuild. My guess is that you'll never find the proper parts to rebuild it... I have no idea where you would go to get the seals.

I would look for someone parting out a 'vert and buy a replacement. You could check the "trading post" sticky thread, the classifieds forum here on NICO, and www.car-parts.com (a listing of salvage yards - search for convertible top and then call to ask for the rams).

Let me know what you find out if you do any more homework on rebuilding them. It might be possible, and would be a great write-up for the forum, if you are able to get parts and get it done. Heck, some Nissan warehouse somewhere might have a couple parts in stock???

The cylinder is easy to remove. Just follow the directions in the door pillar mod (info on removing seats, and rear quarter panels, etc).

The top cylinder itself is held on by a star bolt, if I remember correctly, and a c or d clip - it's pretty obvious once you're looking at it.

As for replacement, you can find new ones on ebay for around $140ish. I may have a spare sitting in the garage or something if you can't rebuild it or don't want a new one.

I just put a new O-ring in the top section of my ram.
Follow the book for taking it out then the clevis at the end just unscrews from the shaft. the top of the ram has a small locking clip that you have to push up on and the top cap just unscrews. The O-ring is the seal for the fluid, and the very top seal on mine was dry and cracked a little but it is just a dust scraper.
I replaced the o-ring and the hardest thing to do was blead it.
Sorry I didn't get good pics of it like i did for making my rear quarter window guides (thinking of making a how to if there is any interest... I actually "milled" new ones from a block)

Finally I quit getting tar streaks on my carpet from the leak running under it in the floor pan.
