So sent my car in for basic service and now they tell me i have an exhaust thats leaking at the front end. Unfortunately i have no warranty anymore so im looking at 880 bucks. Told them to hold off on that outrageous repair. So now im searching around for different options that will lower the cost. Any body here have to replace their exhaust or know of some good options for me. Thought at this point maybe going aftermarket, but id still be paying the garage fees since i have never changed an exhaust and do not have a lift. They also recommended cleaning out the injectors and throttle body but again at an outrageous price so i said f that, just change my oil. Almost made it a year of ownership without expensive repairs.

I had the same issue and they replaced it for free due to the emissions recall

Yea now see I thought this should be covered under that as well. I took mine in when I heard about the recall and they told me they only had to replace my manifold. So a couple months later there's a hole in my exhaust and somehow not covered as part of that recall. I guess there's a time limit on recalls. Maybe I gotta make some phone calls to the right people.

Where is the leak? If it's in the catback, you should go aftermarket. Installing an exhaust yourself is actually really easy. Just unbolt a few things, take out the old one, and bolt the new one in. I didn't even have a proper jack when I did mine lol, I just used the one in the trunk and some jack stands.

I have not had a chance to get under my car and look for myself and the only thing the guy kept telling me was it was leaking from the front tube. so to me this sounds like its before the catback unfortunately. So not really sure what that means for me as far as parts but i assume thats why the hefty price. I really wish they found this when i took it in for the emissions recall. 880 bucks for a new exhaust plus throttle body and fuel injection cleaning at 150 each is well out of my budget. Although stillen exhaust is still about 700 bucks.

Mhmm ..well with mine they replaced my exhaust manifold, the front exhaust tube, and the cat. I think you should try a few other dealers see what they say because I had to go to two. The first one said no because of my intake and the 2nd took it in and did the work with no problem

uggh i feel like banging my head repeatedly every time i call consumer affairs. Round and round i go and probably will never get anywhere. My leak is before the Cat so no aftermarket exhaust for me. I am taking it to a shop to see what alternative method they suggest. I just don't know how i feel about some of the welding patch jobs these places do, assuming its even weldable. We'll see, just don't want to spend the 880+ bucks.

$880 is a bit much, but would take care of the issue..until that Penn salt gets to it again. ;0) Perhaps a spot weld IF they can find the leak in an accessible location would work for you. I have had that done on a '01 Quest van (VG33) manifold and I believe it lasted a few years.

Cleaning the injectors and throttlebody -- I've paid similar to $150~ to have that done at the dealer, spread out over the 100,000 miles I had my coupe. But I would NOT cheap out on that for too long. Build up on the injectors is bad news down the line. Build up on the TB can also start to cause rough engine idle etc. on certain cars more so than others. I had a 3.5, not 2.5, but I imagine you really want to get maintenance items done first before throwing away play money you don't sound like you really have (no offense).

Perhaps you can try to clean the TB yourself if you're good at that stuff. I did that on another car just the other day, and there was a layer of black dirt caked on directly on the throttle plate itself and the piping and immediate internal area of the intake manifold. Of course this other car has 250k miles. As for the injectors, you can probably get away with it for some time not doing the service, or maybe running a bottle of Fuel Injector cleaner like Gum out ($4-5), or whatever reputable brands you can google up, wouldn't hurt every year or so.

Excellent, thanks for the info. Yea I don't plan on skipping the tb cleaning, will take care of that in the next few weeks. My rides not running like it should so I hope that is a solution. My last fun expense on my car was my springs and that ended costing a lot more than expected and man is the ride quality awful, but that's a different post in itself. My focus now is all towards repairs and preventative maintenance.

Well got off the phone with consumer affairs and reached an agreement. Instead of the full 880 i only have to pay 370 so i guess thats some good news.
