So my car has been sputtering and missing pretty bad at wot when I go above 7-8 #s of boost. so I checked Datascan and the FSM and all the sensors are in spec, so I hooke up the "boost leak detector" and pressurized the intake to 10-15 psi an immediately heard a hiss from the intake. Wondering how that was happening, I pulled off the hard line (recirc) to the bov and it was leaking BAD. Am I not doing the test right, or is the bov stuck open? I attached the "detector" to the crossover pipe because I just wanted to check the mani from before the bov. let me know what you guys think. I believe the design of the bov is supposed to open when there is a pressure increase in the piping and a decrease in the mani. correct me if I'm wrong.

well it probably will leak because when your in boost there is boost holding the bov shut and the spring is holding it shut. when you perform that test your preasurizing it 10-15psi and the average weight spring in bov's are around 7 psi. what kind of bov do you have. also did you check for any vacumm leaks? if you can take apart the bov and check to see if the spring is broken or if the o ring seal is bad and check if the vacumm line for the bov.

I thought of that, and, as wierd as this sounds, I blew into the nipple of my tester and it still leaked. I will take it apart tonight and inspect it. If anyone else can answer please do! I know a leaky bov is fairly common, but I was just checking to make sure it wasn't supposed to do that. it is the stocker, btw.

Doesnt the BOV have a pinhole in it to keep reaction speed down?

yes, and here is an update. the plunger is letting air out also. I plugged the pinhole and pressurized the bov and it was leaking around the plunger. so a new bov is in order. then on to the next thing in my never ending quest for a well running car.

the stock one is designed to leak a little bit. now if its leaking through the plunger, its time for a new one, but it always leaks a little through that pinhole. I have a good stock BOV if anyone wants it. I upgraded (is it even an upgrade really?) to a greddy RS. it works well with the recirc. fitting
