I noticed this one problem..I have a leak between my exhaust manifold and the wastegate..I used to use the tial paper gasket for it but it burns so easily..so I just ditched the paper gasket and installed it without one.

when the engine is cold, it leaks.. but when it gets hot.. no more leak... strange.. i guess the metal ring inside the wastegate expanded at high temp..

but anyways... are those composite gaskets for tial wastegate be good enough to hold it from leaking?or does it has to be metal?

Get a turbonetics deltagate gasket. It uses a graphite impregnated metal gasket with a "fire ring" around the main opening. This should not blow unless something else goes wrong. I've blown several of them, but it was always due to bolts coming loose. Once I solved that problem it has been fine. I just blew one last week, but that was due to my dumppipe hitting something and causing the seal to break enough to allow air out at one point of the gasket which caused it to blow out at that point.

I blew out the stock gaskets on my tial wastegate too, they only lasted about 50 miles. I discovered that the problem was from the bolts coming loose, not the gasket itself. I ran without gaskets for a couple of weeks and didn't have any exhaust leaks. I got a machine shop to cut some stainless steel gaskets and they work great, plus I'll never blow them apart.

I don't recommend running no gasket between the mani and the wastegate if you are looking for longevity from the wastegate. The Gasket helps reduce heat transfer from the mani to the wastegate. Stainless steel is a pretty good thermal barrier but probably not as good as a graphite or a composite gasket. Stainless is certainly much more durable however.

Yeah, I tend to order a couple gaskets at a time when I need to buy any. My last one lasted me a good 6 months.

i changed my wastegate gasket today to find it was broken in half and looked like 10 year old mesh shorts. i;ve had this gasket on since november and i cant remember when it started leaking. i thought it was my downpipe since i could only torque 3 of the 4 bolts. well theres no more leak now, the car sounds soooooo much better. throttle response and boost is also much better. 50% throttle now feels like 80% throttle before

well the new tail wastegate gasket i put is already partially blown. i heard a hint of exhuast leak yesterday. this morning found the bolts to be jsut slightly loose like maybe 1/8 of a turn if that. i can see the center of the gasket is blown. i jsut ordered 3 turbonetics fire-ring deltagate gaskets from horsepowerfreak.com for $5.00 each. im also thinking if its possible that my wastegate is slightly warped. when i get the new gaskets im going to check it out

I hate those bolts that come with the Tial wastegate. You can't torque allen screws very good, even with a socket.

i cant even fit the socket all key attachment thing on there with the way the wastegate is shaped. so im jsut using regualr allen keys and guessing how much i have it torqued.
