First I have a 2006 m45 170k miles So I took my car to the dealer for a diagnostic they also told me that my valve cover on the passenger side was leaking oil my question is do I have to replace the entire valve cover or just the valve cover gasket I have heard that on these cars the gasket is built into the valve cover is this true

Not entirely true. The valve cover gasket is a replaceable component. However, the 4 spark plug tube seals are indeed integrated in each valve cover. In the event that you find oil in the tubes, then it becomes time to consider an entire valve cover replacement. Some people use rtv to help with these seals.
