hello i have a 89 240sx manual transmission, fastback, and i have a leaking trunk and it leaks from roof. I've tried using silicon seal to seal all the possible seals around the edges and it still leaks. Anyone have any other suggestion. thanks.

I've had both of your problems. I was getting water dripping on my back seat and water collecting in my trunk. Went to Nissan and found TSB's for both of the problems. The roof problem was fixed by replacing the seal on the rear washer sprayer and the trunk was fixed by re-sealing the area around the taillights.

I literally stuffed my trunk full with newspaper to see where my leak was coming from. It worked well, and now I'm leaving it in around the leak until I can fix it.

Behind the taillights! I used butyl windshield strip to seal it. Works like a dream. Now what about the washer sprayer, is that for the moonroof?

I tried using door molding (for the moonroof), but it leaves a gap at the front, not a big deal except when it's moving (which, with luck, it will one day).

Has anyone done anything for the moonroof?

found the leak. its very hard to tell where the leak is from but i managed to find it. it was a long process, had to take all the covers off in my car to see where the leak was from. the leak was in the corner of the roof by the trunk. its a very small crack in the corner outside the car and had to take the trunk lid off to put on the silicon stuff.

for the moonroof there should be 2 drain holes in the corner. if u take all the covers off inside the car (alot of work) u'll find the hose that connects to the drain holes and it leads down to the side of ur car. the hose on mine were pluged up so i just took it off the car and cleaned it up. hope this helps

There are a few things that can be done depending on the exact problem and severity:

Treat your seals, with armorall or something simmilar.Reshape your seals with a hair dryer.Replace the seals or add additional sealing.Use silicone around the seals.

It might be, I will have to see, but I will likely need a new seal. I have added additional material to no avail. Do you mean hardening sealer. Oh, and by the way, Dracula is coming for you tonight.

Dracula Bus? Or Assisted Living Dracula? You dont really want to harden anything too much because part of what makes seals work is plyability. As they get pushed on they push back and form a little, filling any minor inconsistancies in the surface

No, the time travelling super computer, then oog. Master Shake: Hey, Meatwad, it's your dadMeatwad: That's not my dadShake: No, it's your dad. I know, because I said, arn't you Meatwad's dad, and he said, "Yes, I am, how'd you know".

What do you mean harden. They have hardened since 1991. But I would be more than willing to try cleaning some passages and spraying some silicon spray on them to soften them. I would even soften them with motor oil if it would work. But I think they will need to be replaced.

You said something about hardening sealer, I dunno. 240 sun/moonroofs are notorious for whistling, and leakage is really just a step up from that. You may want to get new seals. You can go as simple as weather stripping, or find good seals at a junkyard, or dealer order it. Just keep in mind the more you put into it the more you'll get out (or keep out in this case). They probably will need to be replaced but it never hurts to try the other stuff first, and lubricant or softener that wont damage the surface might work. You probably dont want a big sticky greasy mess though. I've used vaseline on seals before with varying results, its worth a try.

I've already added sealing material. It doesn't work, so I need a new one. I was just hoping there was a cheap fix.

There is a cheap fix, just not very aesthetic, but its a good temp until you get the seals. Close the roof over a few layers of plastic wrap folder over eachother to double the thickness, it will work for a day or two just until you can get the stuff and put it in.

It'll only screw it up if you leave it like that in the sun. Its more or less a quick fix I used to get from my house to the store when it was raining in sheets.

I dig, but this is a resto deal. I have water spots on my driver's seat. So when I get cow-skin, I will need to seal. Shake is the shizzi.

I'll do what I want, where I want, and how I want. But yeah, if you plan on totally replacing the seal get the right stuff, hardware store rubber seals wont work that well on a roof window. If your dealer doesn't overcharge too bad you might even want to get it there.

I think you are right, I will just have to go to the dealer.
