Leaking Somewhere???? Im stumped

General discussion forum about the 240sx, and a great place to introduce yourself to the board!

Hey guys...so my 240 is leaking coolant at the top of the radiator...the sponge black thing is like doused with antifreeze when i push on it it seeps out antifreeze. So i doubt its the water pump because its at the top of the radiator, if you have any input it will be put to good use and greatly appreciated... Here are some pics.....Thanks guys sorry for some of the pic quality its kinda bad....So Please any input will help me thanks again guys

my civic had the same problem i couldnt figure it out until i found out that the radiator was cracked and my car got engulfed in some james bond smoke screen action in a wendy's parking lot, im sure its a cracked radiator...btw mine cracked at the top as well.

i didnt check it i though it was coming from the overflow...but my friend pointed out the crack in my radiator after it split in two, but mine exploded pretty much under the hood...everything was soaked...im guessing its a crack. look for cracks on the top of the radiator lemme know.

when you buy a new one, try to get an all metal one, they don't crack!

behave over there young man. and is it possibly your overflow line just has a crack in it and it decided to spill out? mine had antifreeze on it when i got home from harrisburg. but my overflow tube wasnt even connected whoa i think thats the first time i ever used 3 smilies in one post...

Yea its at the top here look... Small crack right there, under the black sponge.. I have a full thing of antifreeze in my car to put in

Replace that asap, and don't drive it until you do.

How much is the radiator? Roughly....and im trying to...i have to use the car to get me to school though short distance, like 5miles each way.......only place im going...bus doesn't come down my road.

radiators are around $80-180 for OEM, Very easy fix just try to be careful with

plastic parts and you'll be fine, and i would also change the thermostat and

water pump if you havent yet. there cheap for OEM

I'm not recommending any of these personally because I haven't tried any of them but they seem to have decent prices.

Hey thanks....ill be sure to keep watching my thermostat gauge...only have two days left im going to baby the s*** outta it...its a lose lose situation, i need to get to school and that's the only way...gonna keep my antifreeze in my car fill up when i drive it....it doesn't leak out that fast though.

I found one at napa for $104 and i get a discount if i do it through my shop or through one of my friends that is a master mechanic....Thanks though

Air gets in system, coolant boils, temp rises, engine overheats, head warps, head gasket fails, deck warps.....

Dont drive it.

just be careful overtime they get worn from all the pressure going to it. i check mine every few months now. anyways check out my build thread if your interested.

will do...and she's parked right now...had to put a lot of antifreeze in her today so luckily my mom is off work tomorrow.So im driving her minivan to work lol....woot rocking the 1996 Plymouth grand voyager ha-ha..so i can tear the 240 radiator apart and see if i can get a new one this weekend....so yea
