Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide. I recently noticed a very small amount of dark fluid (not motor oil) on the garage floor and had my local dealer diagnose the problem as a leaking output seal on the transfer case. With only 37,000 miles, the car is under warranty and the dealer will be replacing the seal. I have two questions:

1. Is there anything else the dealer should be doing as part of this repair to make sure I have no problems later on (i.e. changing the transfer case fluid?)?

2. My 2008 G35X has the 5-speed auto transmission - how often should i be changing the transmission fluid? The "premium" maintenance says every 30,000; however the level 2 maintenance schedule doesn't indicate when to change the fluid. Any suggestions?

Thanks again.

+++++++++++ UPDATE ++++++++++++++
Update June 21 -

Brought my car in today to have the transfer case seal replaced and as part of that I mentioned to the service rep that i have been experiencing hard shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, and on occasion, when I back out of a parking spot and then shift to D and pull away, I'm feeling a shudder in the rear wheel. Well, my local dealer just called and now wants to do a "bench teardown" of the transfer case becuase he says the color and consistency of the fluid doesn't look right. Now I'm getting concerned - 37,000 miles and they have to do a teardown??? On top of that, he was implying that someone may have changed the fluid and used the wrong type - even after I told him 3 times that no one has touched the car - IT ONLY HAS 37,000 miles.

Can anyone offer any insight or suggestions????????????? Thanks

I usually don't flush my transmission until appx 60k as the majority of my travel is highway.

Glad Infiniti is taking care of the problem for you. Have they noted a cause?

Thanks for the feedback. No, Infiniti did not indicate a cause for the seal failure. In fact, the service underwriter indicated that he's been with Infiniti for 10 years and has never seen this (??), and that is why it will take over a week to get the part.

It's the first I've seen or heard of as well.

I know the new 7-speeds have fluid that doesn't need to be replaced...I've never heard of one leaking.
