My Oil Pan is currently leaking near the passenger side from where it mates with the Engine block. It is definitely my seal that is leaking and something I'd like to fix on my own.

I began looking at the FSM as to how to fix this and saw that there are actually two oil pans (An Aluminum one nested inside of a steel one). Due to my leak must I replace the seals on both? I have never worked with liquid gasket's before, does anyone have any tips of suggestions? Has anyone done this repair?

The FSM also says to use a specialty tool in order not to damage the aluminum oil pan, is this really necessary?

the RTV liquid gasket stuff works well. Just get everything very clean and follow the instructions exactly. There's a product called 'Ultra copper' from permatex that has worked well for me.

Be very careful not to bend up the oil pan when taking the old one off. Be sure to use a pry tool softer than aluminum (wood, plastic) and take your time so you don't bend anything. I've used those plastic putty knives you use for wall repair.

The RTV is very strong, so typically you have to do a lot of prying even after all the bolts are out.
