Leaking Main Seal / Bad?

To all the shadetree's out there, when I got my last oil change, the mechanic said I had a slightly leaking main seal. How serious is this? He said it is not worth the labor to fix (like a timing chain, high labor cost for cheap part) but to just check my oil level every 1000 miles or so. Any worries or things I should keep my eye open for?

Did he say front or rear? I would assume he was talking about the front, more likely, you can do it when it is time to do your riming belt, cause you'll have to pull main pulley and grear out to access the front main seal. If he is talking about the rear, you'll have to drop the transmission to do the seal.

yeah rear main seal isnt that big of a deal..... how bad does it leak... If it never leaves a puddle or anything, IMO your golden.
